Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.

Where would you connect through? It could be better than either GPZ or Planet, depending on whether those Asian pipes are phat or not. Unless of course they carry the signal using donkeys over the Himalayas into China.
Hey guys, I also posted on 3FL as I am located in Japan and an Australian server should get me a better ping.
Especially since I play with most of you guys already due to being closer on the timezone.
I miss my 50 ping days from when I lived in the US.

People in the states may expect the 200ish pings we aussies get (Which doesn't really impede gameplay strangely), but the people in the EU wil probably bitch the most, as its the converse on GPZ.
I could go with playing a few league matches on the Australian server. Muhahahahaha.
