I'm pretty sure the xml is generated by the client, not the server. Server data is compiled by TAG, I believe.

I have a solution.

For starters, it would not make much sense to reinvent the wheel and remake what SgtBaker is doing, AllegSkill. Do we really need another leaderboard based on a very partial amount of not really trustable information?

I'd rather have a games-that-matter database. Like SGs, ZGs, events, vs world games, and that's it. We encourage all players to send their xml, so that we can wipe out "odd ones out" rather confidently. We know what game has been played when, and this solves also the problem of dupes. Finally, we can give some added value in addinghaving people add comments from the commanders, or links to the game thread, or the image of the map, or maybe even upload screenshots or logs or stuff. We can make a leaderboard for those important games too, so to see how people compare to others when you take all the pugs out of the equation.

What do you think?

[Please note: I'm much better at having ideas than I am at turning them into reality.]

i guess that's true. in that case, we could realign the primary goal to instead provide graphs and statistics about your own performance, that is, if you'd like to know if you've improved your game, then submit sufficient xmls over a period of time and the script would just do the number crunching and generate pretty looking graphs. that would effectively resolve the forgeries issue since you're just gauging your own performance for your own benefit.

we can have stats based on the size of the game like:
a) under 10 players
b) 20-30 players
c) 30+

can also add in stuff like by time of day, or your fav commander, other pilots you frequently fly with

the intention is not to come up with a "standard rating process" for all players, but rather to give some individualized feedback based on the xml data you've saved up over time.

This sounds a vewy, vewy good idea. I've tried myself doing such a thing on my own (Excel), but it does take some effort to tab progress, say, via Excel.

Clicking submit and batch uploading sounds much better. :)

[Pity is I don't know Perl.]

Use CSV formating - any Excel should be able to read/import THAT, ONTHAT any other decent tabular calcula programa should be, too.
