Yes it is now an ingame tactic, and not just tech rocks. Had to kill a probe partially inside of our OP.

If you have momentum, and you're lucky to catch the con on the short side of the rock per sé, you can ram it completely off of the rock as it starts entering its build phase. This will result in the con continuing to drive forward, thinking it's building on a rock, when it really isn't. Lo-and-behold you've just bought yourself 1-2 minutes of extra time until the con resets and re-aligns.

I do not think it's wrong to use such a "skilless" tactic such as this to stop cons from building. There are all kinds of little "glitches" in games like this, and when one person finds out that they work, it is all of a sudden a normal aspect of the game that everyone has to deal with. Some people might bitch about it more than others, but the fact is, if the game makers didn't exclude it, it is part of the game.

That being said I found a few questions being raised about it's effectiveness and a few technicalities about it. Someone said that it would be hard to defend against this because if you are in an Int, you wouldn't be able to spot it, which is completely untrue; the con will spot the probe as soon as you put it in front of it. Also, no, you cannot ram a con into another rock, which I have done, it just kinda glitches away from the rock. Putting probes in front of this con will not only stop it from building, but attract attention from defending Ints from your hull to your probe, so you can live longer... This is a simple strategy in which will be more common very soon. I will probably not use it because I stay out of scouts most of the game, unless commanded to probe somewhere.

Instead of being pissed that this is happening to your con, just always expect it if you see a scout (probably a #) and destroy the probe and the noob laying them.

So is this generally considered "kosher" or no?

exactly my question when i first presented this. i guess it's going to be a decision reached after a community consensus. i havent had the chance to do this again but if i see nan2 and an enemy con about to build, i might try it just so i can delay the con and pick up that tech.

Well, if you do it you'll prob get a lot of people screaming foul and a few defending you.

The choice is yours.

Dropping probes infront of cons to stop them building is a perfectly valid tactic, dropping a probe so it stays inside a base unkillable is not.
