You can always eject the stuff if you fail.
Even if you were ten times more massive and going 300mps the con velocity change would be about 3. You'd be splattered across the face of it with all your stuff strewn across the sector wondering why it didnt move, and if there was just maybe a sliver of shield taken down on the damn thing. The con would plant scraping your goo off itself as it mated with the rock ( /laugh.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="laugh.gif" /> ).Anguirel wrote:QUOTE (Anguirel @ Mar 23 2008, 02:53 PM) You can't move effectively when carrying high mass -- your acceleration will be shot, and your max speed will also be very low. However, you do conserve speed based on current mass, so the proper way to use high-mass cargo for ramming is to dump cargo, place dumped cargo in line between you and the intended ram point, gain as much speed as possible, and pick up cargo on the way through to target zone. This is also how you got the Giga deployable shields into place if you didn't use them immediately after launching. It can be effective, but it requires a lot more set up time than is normally useful.
Is this similar to being 'Jammed' as in the sense of Spaceballs?SouthPaw wrote:QUOTE (SouthPaw @ Mar 20 2008, 11:56 AM) The jello would goo up your external intakes and make seeing where you are going harder, plus if you got the munchies on the way to or from the ram ...
This is a feature of the new faction I'm working on, tugboats that can carry weights (probably less than 1000 though) and have the torque and thrust to use that mass effectively.Kuromimi wrote:QUOTE (Kuromimi @ Mar 21 2008, 06:07 AM) I still think we should have a "Ballast" cargo item that weighs 1000 and does nothing.

We are all just a bunch of cue balls.
I never specified what to ram, just how to do it if you really wanted to try to load up with high mass cargo. If you managed to hit a bomber with a 300 MPS Int that had 5,050 mass instead of 50, I suspect it would be impressive (especially if it was a friendly bomber, so no pesky damage to keep the collision from doing a complete momentum transfer). You could probably even nudge some capital ships around with those masses.MrChaos wrote:QUOTE (MrChaos @ Mar 23 2008, 05:46 PM) Even if you were ten times more massive and going 300mps the con velocity change would be about 3. OK question of my own:
If a con is pivoting about it center, like it appears to do in game, if a pilot hits the outside edge of it will he get the torque effect of the collusion ( for small cons this is a valid question )
PS Free you get the troops together I'll play poker
