I think maybe a few folks might have misinterperted some peoples statements. How I am reading this is very simple.

Nothing would be "done" to or by the community to any existing core. The dev(s) would continue to do their thing.

What is being suggested is to take one core that the dev offers up (Like Grimm did in his post about GoD) and mod it to some sort of satisfactory level of acceptance by the majority of the community. That is it survives the test of "will the majority of the community play it" that core would be the one run by the community under some sort of ZL leadership. This core would be more responsive to balance adjustments and would not have as many "additional cool ships and cheese" as some of the more unique cores.

Again, interesting note that 4 squads did play on GoD this weekend for the tourny games.

Hate to say this, but as someone who has been here less than a year, one thing I have learned about this community is that there isn't a subject out there that everyone agrees with (except that fish is a cool guy). A community core is a Karl Marx-esque idea that would probably be implemented a la Grouch Marx. "I call to re-establish the Senate!!!!"

My opinion on this iz.....DN iz NOIR'z work.. And the best core out to date..((A+ waz a bastardizing watered down version of alleg)) Now take into konsideration... I kreated TF and Dreg.. On DN..BOTH of my factionz have been abused with the NERF bat..Beatin down so to speak...BUT..DN iz NOIR'Z core and I gave HIM permission to use my factionz..((AZ I give the entire kommunity permission because I want to see my work played)) ...Even though I dont agree with the "balance" changez he haz made (( I especially hate the tf prox bomb not being a "bomb" anymore)).. I still support hiz core ..It iz the best core out there... AND hiz decision to Keep the core under hiz personal control iz fine with me because..IT IZ HIZ.....KGJV U know we are palz but I have to disagree on this one... I agree that Perhapz People to HELP him on the core work would be a nice thing..(( I really want to see Z get put in the damn game)).. But ultimately NOIR should mantain hiz control on a core that he created... I understand what itz like to create something and want to keep it your way...

I have a castrated version of RPS which is in effect A+ with Dreg and TF. Only 3 tech levels. It is essentially the FASTEST launching point for a core designed to compete with DN given that it has every faction (excluding Nix of course) in it.

From the limited tests i have done with it, it does not seem terribly imbalanced the way it is. Dr.S really did a bang-up job. Tiered GS make them more expensive and less likely to be abused like they are now (not to mention it would take BIOS 20 min to get up current style GS).

Originally this was to be AllegNationals core, however when that fell through it hasn't received very many changes.

but back on topic... why does it matter if the core is managed by Noir? if the community did not like what he was doing they would play on a different core, simple as that.

QUOTE Tactics should change, not the concepts of a tech path or core.[/quote]

QFT, to some extent.

(nerfing int's fuel capacity would still be a good thing, IMHO)

Nerfing int fuel only nerfz non int pilotz really...U nerf the fuel and Ill never go far from base so az to conserve.. SO there will never be a chance to stop my kb,,

yeah, it's the main argument FOR nerfing the fuel - it won't hurt the good int pilots, but it will stop prople from boosting across 2 sectors to kill a miner and them boost home.

never mind, this has already been argued, so let's not de-rail it too much.

Well, if we're gonna vote, sure, create a community core with played voted changes and if it's popular, I will, and I'm pretty dead sure MOST players will play on it simply because like Rav says, you wanna play on the server with the most players and as much as I like DN I will certainly play on the 'main' server, as will a lot of people.

So create the community core, and host it on a good server, make it for community events/whatnot, with the changes dictated by popular consensus (via ASGS polling, yes there'll be a lot but if you wanna create a community core it's gonna have to be democratic else there's no point and the owners would be retarded) and leave the existing cores for whoever wants to play 'em.

I vote yes, but leave the cores as is, in the hands of their creators and create your own core. Or ask Noir if you can use DN as a base. All this talk of permabanning Noir and taking his core, and duelling it out in court, is frankly, ridiculous.

(And it HAS to be democratic. Like TB, I don't want to play a core, if it's a 'community' one designed by a committee because the fact is that no community leaders or core devs, could be considered representative of the community at large by any stretch of the imagination, which isn't to fault them by the way. If a committee is used, AT LEAST have the composition like this:

All the existing core and general devs
FAZ Devs
A brilliant commander
A brilliant pilot
Int ho
SF ho
Fig ho
Scout ho

At least then most of the community is covered. /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />)

I'm of the opinion that in this day and age, open/shared cores should be the way to go as is open source/shared software. Sure you have democratic conflicts and what not but the debate will eventually settle on something commonly accepted with whatever compromises. Having cores copyrighted takes the freedom away from the community and what not and stifles ideas of what's possible. It takes away from the spirit of sharing and allowing works to blossom even further. That's just my opinion from a 10K' level.

Anyways, it's my hunch that once R4 gets released this will be less of an issue as we will be able to select different cores as a setting on a server. It will also be easier for others to come up with their own cores and balance them as they see fit while not having issues of cores being hosted on particular servers. It will also alleviate the problem of the masses being forced onto DN due to majority/minority opinion and will leave it in the hands of the GC to decide. Flexibility is always good. I think we should just be patient and wait for the green light for R4 before we do anything drastic.

Banning Noir is a bit silly IMO. Any way you dice it, you can't avoid the fact that he's a contributor to the community and punishing him for it is going overboard.
