There wasn't any of this stuff back in 2000. I am not sure how much more we can do for the newbies then that is already done. There was no cadet,TS,wiki,etc.. Atleast that I knew of. The game manual wasn't much either from what I remember. I just joined a game called "Kevdude_SF Here" because that had the most people and figured it out mostly on my own.

Jimen wrote:QUOTE (Jimen @ Jul 24 2010, 09:29 AM) My argument is that we're not going to make newbie servers prosperous because there are rarely THAT MANY noobs on at a time and the community is addicted to preventing helpful people from joining the newbie servers (lol, have an @Alleg sit in there and ban anyone who goes there just to whore the noobs
*bzzzz*

Wrong and wrong.

a) When somebody from the @HELP goes to man the newbie server, it usually doesn't take even 5 min before the first newbie comes to see what's up. The more are there, the more wonder in. It's a very good way to say "hello welcome" and show them the very basics like turning on mouse control and where to find the sidethrusters. A @HELP member flying about as a moving target is also a nice way for them to give them something to shoot at. The more advanced / keen ones get as much info as we have time to share (with advice to look at the wiki and join AFS / Cadet).

The only real problem with this is that it's all volunter work. When you have only a few hours a week to play Allegiance anyway, you don't want to spend all that sitting on the newbie server. We do as much as we have time and energy for. From what I can tell it really does help, and we get a lot of thanks from the new guys.

If Allegiance was a commercial venture, it would totally be worth it to have somebody "man the newbie server" on a professional basis. As it isn't, the volunteer work is what we get.

Or am I just missing out on the messages happening somewhere else that is geting this ball rolling on geting SOMETHING done?
Hunter, dude . . are you seriously asking this? Do you not see the ideas that are constantly coming and going as people try things around here? A bit of attitude there. I'd ask that you take it down a notch or just simply post what you have done to implement the idea you like best and are capable of implementing.

OTDT_Hunter wrote:QUOTE (OTDT_Hunter @ Jul 23 2010, 08:51 PM) What about the rest of the ideas? Couldn't we do a poll or something for the dev team? I may not agree with all of the ideas but I think they should all be looked at by the dev team (or whoever would be the right people to look it over). I think we could atleast use some of those ideas in Beta and such. Really test those ideas out in game.

I know allegiance is not going to be a big game because it is not everones cup of tea to play and stick around. I do think we could and SHOULD be doing alot better at geting more people and keeping them. For those people that are already doing those things I tip my hat off to you, I mean no disrespect to you.

I don't see you posting a ton on the forums (at least until recently) Hunter, but have you seen the recent crazy activity in the development zone? Have you had a chance to participate in beta wednesday's (and perhaps even help, like drumming up beta activity, pulling ppl from the main production servers to beta).

There are TONS of new features in beta. TONS of things have been happening, some of which have been mentioned in this discussion and LOTS that haven't. Bard, Imago Fuzz, Xynth and others are doing a great job getting tests into beta. Imago's work automating the build process and tying it into beta AU is bringing us LOADS closer to having a completely functional beta system for testing so it's EASY to test and EASY to get new ideas tested.

We're hopefully, with R6, going to launch a server in Australia again, along side a marketing campaign there, hopefully giving us some additional players during US non-peak times.

Did you know we have a marketing team? We're all really really busy lately, but we could always use more help. If you are itching to do something, toss me a pm and I can either take your input on getting more people through marketing or can get you on the team. You can always help out with the marketing campaigns when we push them too.

Anyway, the point is, there is a LOT going on right now (a lot more than I've ever seen before). These ideas will get time in front of the devs and the community will have input. If you want it to go faster, get to work! It's already moving a light speed compared to the last several years.

Oh good, we can have another server operator quitting because he thinks "voob" is funny and someone else doesn't. :P

What times of day are you playing at? I would totally play more if I could get the occasional shorter game. I just don't have 3 hours to commit most week nights :P

A good part of allegiance is that you can join and leave games as you wish. So nobody forces you to play 3 hours. You should consider it as a great thing that you WANT to play for three hours.

*is stacked against*
*refuses to accept anyone with a rank lower than 10 until some vets antistack*
*is every commander ever*

*sees a 7v4 where both sides have the same total AS*
*doesn't notice or care that the bigger side is full of noobs*
*joins the smaller side to stack*
