Meh, it's just a flashy thing to show to his supporters, you weren't taking many refugees b4. And for the terror thing, aren't most of the terrorists in the latest attacks euro nationals¿? wonder about what percentage of Isis dudes are from Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
Sorry to tell you, but America has alway been super racist, so... what's new again¿?

They did; however, overturn Korematsu.

Don't find fault, find a remedy; anybody can complain.

I don't really think they did -- in order to overturn Korematsu, I think they would have to have been presented with a substantially similar case, and then rule differently than they did in 1944. Roberts's argument was "okay, so we all agree Korematsu was bad, but this case is no Korematsu because reasons, so the dissenting justices are wrong in making that comparison". As such, Roberts's statements about Korematsu are probably just obiter dicta and wouldn't carry any precedential value (not that that case isn't already well discredited at this point).phoenix1 wrote:QUOTE (phoenix1 @ Jun 26 2018, 03:24 PM) They did; however, overturn Korematsu.

Yes America has been super racist, but we did have the civil rights movement and of course much more recently a black president was elected twice. What's new is all of the federal racist policies. And the supreme court giving the green light for more of this @#(! from Trump is horrifying. In our lifetimes our species is devolving, in essence. We're going backwards when it comes to social, economic, and environmental responsibility. Nationalism has completely mind-$#@!ed a huge amount of people and we're repeating so many mistakes!SumVeritas wrote:QUOTE (SumVeritas @ Jun 26 2018, 03:02 PM) Sorry to tell you, but America has alway been super racist, so... what's new again¿?
Edit: I do enjoy optimism about the future, but this presidency can't end soon enough.

What they did, and why it pisses me off, is this:cashto wrote:QUOTE (cashto @ Jun 26 2018, 05:47 PM) I don't really think they did -- in order to overturn Korematsu, I think they would have to have been presented with a substantially similar case, and then rule differently than they did in 1944. They just said that as long as you dogwhistle your unconstitutional laws, you can have unconstitutional laws.
It's really not surprising, and once again I'll point you to the very obvious violation of the 21st amendment which is "we will not give states highway funding if they don't raise the drinking age to 21."
EDIT: I bet I could drive that thing up behind you and kick you in the junk before you even heard me coming, Raum.

the species has nothing to do with it, but the political system and the western order is in crisis. but it doesn't necessarily have to end badly. the order was in crisis also when the industrial revolution happened. look back at american politics in those days - it was horribly corrupt and people were saying it was going to be the end of the west as we knew it. except it wasn't; politics adjusted quite well because democracy is horribly weak but it is flexible and that is its greatest strength.Dome wrote:QUOTE (Dome @ Jun 26 2018, 09:17 PM) Yes America has been super racist, but we did have the civil rights movement and of course much more recently a black president was elected twice. we are currently in the information revolution which might end up having an even greater impact than the industrial revolution did. we just can't know what it will be. but the current political system isn't built for this amount of information floating around (i.e. fake news and deliberate adversarial disinformation). if we are lucky, american politics will once again adjust and the west will become even stronger.

It's ALSO not built for this quantity of actual information. The system was designed and built when "an informed populace" meant something entirely different than it does today.Terran wrote:QUOTE (Terran @ Jun 27 2018, 09:17 PM) we are currently in the information revolution which might end up having an even greater impact than the industrial revolution did. we just can't know what it will be. but the current political system isn't built for this amount of information floating around (i.e. fake news and deliberate adversarial disinformation). if we are lucky, american politics will once again adjust and the west will become even stronger.
Seriously, not ten years ago if I was sitting in a bar having an argument about, I dunno, who had the most NFL rushing yards in 2004, we would have to wait until we got home to look it up. Now any arguments can be fact checked by a 3 ounce device virtually everyone has in their back pockets. "Who's the prime minister of Zimbabwe?" "Zimbabwe doesn't have a prime minister, they have a President, currently the office is held by Emmerson Mnangagwa."

I think the volume of info was a bigger deal than fake news. You can find anecdotal evidence of pretty much anything to back up your viewpoint, however ridiculous it is. See: Globey
This was prevalent before fake news and imo is a bigger deal than outright lies. It has definitely been causing change, for better and worse
