I havn't done either Cadet or ACS. So I won't give much of a opinion.

If either were around in 2000 when I joined. If it was a bunch of reading and not geting a whole lot of help with people in game. I would of lost intrest in the game soon as I was told there was a lot of reading involved (I don't know about how much reading is involved I am just saying).

I would be a lot more interested in learning if I could do some reading for the basics. Then join in Mumble speak with a person and ask the questions I care to ask. I do this with RPGs.

I think the newbie issue is just part of the problem.

Are we really happy with a 1000 player player base? Really?

The soulutionm to the problem is simple.

Have Microsoft re-release Allegiance as "Allegiance2" or "Alliances"

I have never understood how a core group of dedicated players years ago was able to keep Alleg more stabel than a multi-billion dollar corp.

What the guys have done over the years is amazing. But we need some muscle behind this game or another version of it to be re-launched.

Someone send MS an email and ask them to put a few million into advertising and relaunch alleg. Just avoid the troubles that killed the game to start with.

A 1 million man player base would be a great start. 100 vs 100 games anyone:)

Suggestions:

Autobalance on, 24/7. Please God no, not until you implement the correct Auto balance. Talk to Baker, don't be surprised if you gfy Enforce (or encourage) balanced commanders. How? Im ok with that one, just how Regularly scheduled veteran-only games. We probably don't have the players is the sad answer, but make it so Ill cheer you on Allow newbies to join any team regardless of autobalance, so they don't have to sit while a commander is "waiting for a vet".Autobalance almost never is on and when on it works like poo. It's the wrong implementation is why. Fix autobalance and the system handles them fine Raise the rank limit on the newbie server. No one, and I mean no one uses it now. Save the one time at band camp stories @help eager beavers Newbie rank inflation so they feel they are doing well. IT'S A PROBLEM WE HAD TO FIX MULTIPLE TIMES NOW, FFS LET'S NOT REPEAT IT AGAIN More TS/mumble please.Cool fine idea, at least the commanders can talk to the team. Most of us, Im obviously an exclusion don't talk Limit server size / split veteran servers.Trust me this one is controversial, and unless ALL the server owners do it, won't happen. So it won't happen Add achievements.Let me know when you've coded them, and figured out how to implement them automatically. Wear your teflon undies cause you can see the responses to most things around here in this very thread. It's also going to take any of semblence of cooperative game play *opens window* *boot* unless you are really careful on the implementation. The old MS system was achievement based and most people became stat whores, and points grinders. So cool just be careful that the achievements flow organic Improve the wiki. Perhaps add some sort of bare-bones course to avoid scareing away noobs. Again? That will be the fourth time since Ive returned Auto-boot idlers. NOAT? If so why? Ingame  five minutes sound good (I can take a dump, and get back in that time) Auto-launch games after 15-30 minutes. I would never hold game control ever again, but *shrug* ok

A couple of (IMO) unhelpful responses:

Nothing is wrong. More research is needed. Less veteran douchebaggery. Less newbie/voob incompetence. Just shut up and play the game
That list we agree on the completely the previous one... not as much. Your heart is in the right place but it's going to take real work by real people to do most of them. I will fight you tooth and nail if you try to inflate newbie ranks artifically, again, it was a bad idea the last two times, it's a bad idea this time and if you use autobalance you'll break the system, fix nothing, and reintroduces the same god damn problems it took forever to get rid of in the first two places. if you want multiple games, set up a lobby (super-NOAT so to speak) where the players can see all the avaible games and those they can join, just implement the correct AB first. Save the die in a couch fire response others I already know your feelings.

There are ways to change things regarding ranks, autobalance, and newbies but it requires someone to do some work. Im at stage five *tip of the hat to backtrack ;) * atm and in thanks for doing the work so I can play still mode but I'd rather be dipped in dog@#(! then help atm. Baker and TE  have or can implement the autobalance fixes

looking at the src code wrt ab code, it appears dogbones and te were stepping on each other 's toes trying to get soemthign doen and totally $#@!ed it up so bad i just want to revert the whole goddamn code block to ms-original and start over - they should both be banned from future attempts at abany code modificationpprojects

So here's an idea, what if we, instead of including a built-in mumble, included a built-in interface for mumble? So Allegiance has a mumble-launcher?

Or maybe built-in voice for allegiance is too much.

I don't know, I'm no code monkey.

Talk to Baker the problem is it doesn't utilize AllegSkills values correctly which means the teams aren't balanced. The predicitions were right, iirc in the the mid 80 percent range... which feels right for those wtf happened how did we lose games (about 1 out of 8 times). edit: caveat thats when peole arent trying to actively break the autobalance system for lolz via fake zeros and the like ;)

The other stuff I'll leave to the infighting amongst the devs. Hey Imago I was thinking a cage match with jello, stapplers, and a Llama... we could charge money... what do you think?

P1's idea of having a mumble launcher... maybe on the ASGS next to the launch allegiance button could be very helpful.

We also need to put together a high-end installation package, with a lot of graphics candy already included.

Just so we're clear, I was just recapping what people had suggested. I personally think about half of the ideas on the first list are crap (in fact, we probably agree on which half, including newbie rank inflation and forced autobalance).

There is a term for people who keep trying the same thing over and over again expecting different results.
