Veterans-only Saturday 3pm EST games! Mumble and rank 15+ required for entry.
Due to the borked nature of ranks, many vets are still ranked 10-14, I think I saw blake the other week with a (9).
So you'd have (currently) 65 'vets', with 50% attendence (hopeful) you could do a 16v16 game, more than likely you will manage a 10v10.
Further to that, as time progress the number of 'vets' will increase, slowly, and will primarily consist of voobs. Vets (those not currently ranked 15+) that have been playing 5 years will not (normally) be ranked 15+ soon (say in the
next 5 years even) or ever (do to the restrictive, limiting, and inaccurate AS (yes yes best we've had, except for AllegAge) which pushes ranks down from what I've been seeing.

Like you'd know how rough it is to comm game after game like that? Even I've commed more games than you, which makes me wonder why the hell you're weighing in on ACS in the first place.
yes I am pretty bored why do you ask

Seriously, if we are talking about community problems, I think it would be nice to mention those who somehow turned Allegiance (and the community with it) to their own personal playground where they can be top dogs anywhere, and anytime. There is no saying no, there is not even staying silent, if you don't pay tribute you just get stomped into the ground both in game and on these forums or stay ignored forever at best without any chance to even express your opinion. I don't say these people didn't contribute (It is obvious they did, and they continue to do so), but what's the point of a contribution if you can only give it in such an arrogant way.
I see bitter, burned out people telling they are done with this game and its community, yet bashing the hell out of people who are WILLING to step up and take responsibility. Come on. Worst comm in Alleg? Stupidest zone lead? Cancer of the game? If you are so bitter, maybe you just need to step down and stop making yourselves so visible that someone can't even log onto these forums without reading the arrogant "I made Alleg to this, bow and accept the fact that you'll be always a lot more stupid than me" crap. Maybe people don't need it and maybe you should let some other people do some stuff in a different way, which might be either worse or better than yours. To me it seems 99% of the bashing that goes around here is just about old people getting angry by new people using different methods.
If you are done with the community, step down and let some new people play with stuff you played with for a decade. It might be hard to swallow that you aren't in focus any more but maybe good stuff will come of it. Who knows.
(Obviously this will piss off some people. I just want them to know that I'm absolutely grateful for their work, time, and efforts that brought Alleg here. But that doesn't change the fact that sheer arrogance is just as destructive as outright stupidity, especially if it comes to managing a community on the long term.)

Since quite a few of them are here, ACS instructors should check out my proposed changes for the program.
CARRY ON!

+1 to hermit. that really needed to be said. we're all on the same side with the same goals. and wow.. last time i checked nobody here got paid to do any of this volunteer work. all these negative statements that can only be construed as provocative, become yet another obstacle to overcome.

I had a lot of fun doing ACS, i might do it again if I get the time. It was only comming a few games a week, and so far, most of you wrote more in this thread than a typical game summary would contain.
Clay, I think you did a great job with it and you guys keep up the good work.
I'm buying into the idea of getting someone else to help comm some nubbins. Next time there is some main game down time, I'll try to comm some training games. At least I can tell em how to load a scout and drop probes.
Thanks,
-BT.
Edit: Guess I'll have to check out this mumble thingy too...

A quick recap for those who can't be arsed to read all 12 pages ...
Suggestions:
Autobalance on, 24/7. Enforce (or encourage) balanced commanders. Regularly scheduled veteran-only games. Allow newbies to join any team regardless of autobalance, so they don't have to sit while a commander is "waiting for a vet". Raise the rank limit on the newbie server. Newbie rank inflation so they feel they are doing well. More TS/mumble please. Limit server size / split veteran servers. Add achievements. Improve the wiki. Perhaps add some sort of
bare-bones course to avoid scareing away noobs. Auto-boot idlers. Auto-launch games after 15-30 minutes.
A couple of (IMO) unhelpful responses:
Nothing is wrong. More research is needed. Less veteran douchebaggery. Less newbie/voob incompetence. Just shut up and play the game

P.S. Yes, Vir isn't SL, I know, it's an example. And yes, there happen to be 56 badges because I just mocked up something quick.
