That is the bare minimum to keep the species from dieing off, as there always are accidents/disease and the like.

Have less kids than that, and you will be replaced by other people who don't care about your ideals and have 5-6+ kids easily. The world population won't shrink. It will just be populated by someone else, who doesn't care as much about the problems you see.

I have no problem with the world being populated by ppl who doesn't care about the problems that Radulfr sees.

Fix poverty and the question becomes academic? Like women enjoy being pregnant half their optimum baby producing age. And than babysit as grandparent age 45+ for all their grandchildren.

I think human species will survive, even if tomorrow 70% of the world population would random disappear.
