Last I recall, and I'm way to lazy to actually go hunt down the numbers, violent crime and war overall is, and has been on the decline for quite a while.
You could, in fact, say that we currently live in the most peaceful period of recorded history, but dat media dun gon blowd everything up.

A question (and this is generally not supposed to be pointing fingers or scoring points). Why are hispanics considered culturally different to other white people in the States but the french Canadians are just lumped in with the rest of the European Canadians? Surely the Quebecois have a culture that is distinct from the rest of Canada?
As for Ferguson, well, it's probably better for the police to shoot less people in future. But that's hardly a new thing.

Eh the most deviation that the Beckers have is their refusal to speak english. Which sucks for people who flunked out of French in high school.
The real gems in Kanata are the east coasters. Newfies are 50x more fun than your average Irishman or Scot. Harder to understand too. And they make some crazy good beer.

Violence IS down from previous years in the US. What you are really seeing is that businesses (media) have figured out how to monetize violence. It isnt that media is merely covering violence, they've always covered violence, its that coverage is diversified into a newsy/drama hybrid. By dramatizing everything they get more viewers, but they also inadvertently create the perception that the world is crazy. Conflict is the essence of drama.

can't decide if this is a troll or not... but anyway..
almost HALF (49%) the population is comprised of visible minorities.

clearly which place has a more homogeneous population has absolutely nothing to do with the issue

I dunno I found some interesting data on the canadian government website that might indicate otherwise.
