QUOTE I definitely think the purpose of these achievements needs to remain central. They should not be for vets, they should be for newbies, to give them a pat on the back for achieving things whilst they are on their way to understanding the bigger picture. People who have been here for 6 months should have pretty much done most if not all of the achievements, so that Allegiance remains about trying to win for the team rather than getting achievements.[/quote]

I would have to agree with this.

Also, in a conversation in NOAT one night a pilot suggested more training missions for newbies. Missions that would help newbies become valued pilots in PUGs. Some of the mission type types could be, how to nan a bomber or htt. How to X nan other nans. How to find miners via probing. etc etc. I wish i could remember which pilot suggested it.

Why not, If these new missions become available, tack on a reward for completion?

Right click Newbie Joe(0) in NOAT and view achievements.

Newbie Joe(0) has earned:
Mission 1 badge (bronze)
Mission 2 badge (bronze)
Mission 3 badge (Silver)
Mission 5 badge (Gold)
Mission 6 badge (silver)

Allegience Competency Medal: got all missions done with bronze.

Allegience Competency Medal 1st class: got silver in all training.

Allegience Competency Star: Gold in all missions.

I Don't totally suck in allegience ribbon: Platinum in all missions.

I think something like this would be very newbie friendly.

For the most part no, many of these things can be gained from the data we already collect. Other things like finding gaining # TF miner kills in a Lt SF would require additional work, and things like that may or may not be worth the effort.

Well that's the idea if you look at the pics in the first post, right clicking takes you to the profile which would include badges and shiny medals etc.

Yes, if we can get the information tracked we can use badges to mark progress in a profile

There is already a How to nan a bomber mission Created by the community (the only mission the community has created).

Last time I mentioned the training missions I was told they were quite time consuming to create and tune correctly.

The code itself is reasonably sensible, but you will need to generate artwork/voice acting, perhaps specialist Core changes, and spend time working at it.

Another thing to consider is how stupid Drone AI is so the more complicated missions you propose (X-nanning, nanning HTT's) would possibly need AI code changes too.

It can be done - but you will need a few people willing to dedicate the effort.

Edit:
I'm not saying more training missions is a bad idea. They probably are a good idea.

I really like this idea and I was thinking the exact same thing as Freya when I read his reply to the other topic, but I only saw this thread now! :P
I was toying with this idea for a week or so a while back, and made some pins to start things off...

I also started jotting down some achievement ideas down, but I don't have any time to work on this for a while, so I thought I should post this to maybe help someone else...

Originally I was thinking making this a website, but I like the idea of integrating it into the client a lot more :)

KGJV is probably right, this will be a lot easier to implement once CSS is completed...

Feel free to use these images for whatever. If you want the original .pdn files (Paint.Net), or a zip with all of them, let me know :)

E.g:
Int Kills 3/5ths to Silver:

Maybe for total kills:

Maybe for total ejects:

Maybe for total points:

Maybe for special achievements:
(These are some of the ship decals that are on the artwork CDs)

Then maybe kills per ship type:
(These are just modified core icons - based on ApochBoy's generic set)

Scout:

HTT:

nice art stuff Aaron but you won't be able to use a lot of it, we can't get stats on int kills and scout kills because they are just ship types, you can count kills, you can count drone kills, you can count station kills but you can't count how many miners you have killed, not unless you want this to just be for Community Core because it can be different for each core, TAG would be required to parse through to find specific drone and base kills but it won't be able to do so for player piloted ships because TAG doesnt get a message saying 'AaronMoore (scout) has been podded by Weedman (int)'.

Aaron those are looking good, the only way for progress is to keep trying out new ideas and completing a little bit at a time. :)

HSharp currently a lot of stats aren't collected, which is not to say that it will be like that forever.

No but im not sure how they can be collected either.

It's easy enough to get base kills and even specific drone kills so you can count how many miners you have killed but I don't see how that is going to be tweaked for pilotable ships especially as each core is different and the ships are not named the same.

That's one way to do it. Another, possibly more flexible way would be to modify the client/server to record the additional stats (as has been done before)

This would open up the posibility to record more things such as time flown, rounds/missiles fired, rounds/missiles hit, damage taken, damage given, kills, ejects per ship and/or from ship/weapon like Datamine did for his research.
If we did it this way, we may not have to wait for CSS either...

We would need to create a mapping table to associate all the different ship hull ids with a ship type (IC lt. Int, Int, Hvy Int, Dreg lt. Int, etc... => INT) for each of the supported cores (limited perhaps to CC 10)
This table would need an interface to allow it to be maintained if a new faction or ship was added (i.e. OH or the Lxy Patroller)

Regards,

Aaron

I approve of the general idea of achievements (Except the stupid ones, like getting podded) and profile page.
