I don't agree with your definition of fun and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Not everyone finds int-whoring fun..._SRM_Nuke wrote:QUOTE (_SRM_Nuke @ Jun 8 2010, 10:57 AM) But that isn't the way Allegiance is. If all you cared about was fun, nobody would ever nan, probe, scout or command. If I wanted to only do what was fun I would int whore aimlessly all game long and not care whether the team won or lost. Maybe that is how some people treat the game, but you need to do things that are less than fun if you want to be competitive. Isn't that why we have leagues and tournaments anyway? To be competitive? If you don't want to compete then don't sign your squad up for a competition.
So you agree winning is fun. NJ is arguing that it isn't about winning which seems a little ridiculous for something that is organized as a competition.Gandalf2 wrote:QUOTE (Gandalf2 @ Jun 8 2010, 07:42 AM) I don't agree with your definition of fun and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Winning games is fun... being a part of a winning team is fun.... some quieter people like doing tasks that aren't recognized and have fun knowing they are doing an important job even if it isn't recognized.
Of course winning is often fun._SRM_Nuke wrote:QUOTE (_SRM_Nuke @ Jun 8 2010, 12:52 PM) So you agree winning is fun. NJ is arguing that it isn't about winning which seems a little ridiculous for something that is organized as a competition.
well if you talk about alleg more challenge = more fun, if there is a real challenge and if you really have to struggle to win then its fun whether you win or not. Sometimes winning is not much fun like a losing a close game where you have to rush between O and D all the time, I think that's what NJ is trying to point out._SRM_Nuke wrote:QUOTE (_SRM_Nuke @ Jun 8 2010, 02:52 PM) So you agree winning is fun. I definitely agree with you on that close game part. Some of the best games I have played have been ones that went back and forth for hours and either side could have won. And then there are some horrible games where squads lose to hvy scouts or go Giga tac on star. I think that is what Cable is getting at. There were too many games this past league where some squads didn't even seem to care and yet they whined on the forums anyway.Solamnus wrote:QUOTE (Solamnus @ Jun 8 2010, 08:01 AM) well if you talk about alleg more challenge = more fun, if there is a real challenge and if you really have to struggle to win then its fun whether you win or not. I disagree with the specifics of this point. You're entitled to be part of a squad no matter what your RL is and no matter what the RL of the rest of the squad is. What you should avoid at all costs is scheduling a SG when RL is going to keep your squad from showing. Everyone $#@!s up from time to time (RT very much includedCable wrote:QUOTE (Cable @ Jun 8 2010, 03:36 AM) I don't often post outside of the SYSX boards. Every once in a blue moon I will catch a series of threads that makes me want to laugh at all the pathetic people.
FIRST: You shouldn't be part of a Squad if you say you can not field a team because of real life.
Not entirely sure who this is aimed at but in general yes: recruit sensibly and fill key positions in your SG team. But figuring in my response to point 1 you should have a backup for the most important roles (such as com).Cable wrote:QUOTE (Cable @ Jun 8 2010, 03:36 AM) Second: WHo ever is in charge of your squad is a poor planner, a horrible recruiter and a lazy bastard. Find some decent commanders, get people looking for good talent, create a commaraderie.
The base unit of the squad is the pilot, not the tokens. If the pilots fail the squad fails. Leaders can only lead where the pilots are willing to follow.Cable wrote:QUOTE (Cable @ Jun 8 2010, 03:36 AM) Third : Your team mates are lazy bastards , they have have no heart and the team is not willing to step up to breath life into the team. You can not just blame the squad leadership. It's not their Squad..... its yours too, you get out what you put in.
Agreed again (I'm agreeing with Cable more than I'd ever have expectedCable wrote:QUOTE (Cable @ Jun 8 2010, 03:36 AM) Fourth: Losing games sucks but you gain respect if you play hard, you gain no rspect if you do nothing to get better .
What's wrong with a social club? It's a very limited view of this community to say that SGs are the only function of squads. I personally want to be in a squad with people I like and enjoying playing games with. Winning with those people makes it even better but it's by no means the whole of it. If a squad isn't a social structure then why do people wear their squad tags throughout the week and not just on SG days?Cable wrote:QUOTE (Cable @ Jun 8 2010, 03:36 AM) Fifth: If you want a social club, have the balls to disband your squad status and let the few people who want to show up shore the other weaker squads.
Bam! Over the last three years, the only squad not to have a serious slump is PK (although they might be having one right now, time will tell). SysX and XT have both fallen and had to work hard to get back to the top. RT haven't slumped although we've not had the best year so far this year but we started as a mid range at best squad and we've worked hard to get into the 2nd tier and at times on a par with the top lot.Cable wrote:QUOTE (Cable @ Jun 8 2010, 03:36 AM) Finally ....if your insulted by this good.. Stop bitching and whining and get of your freaking ass and do something about it. WISHING WILL NOT BEAT SYSX OR XT, playing and getting better is how you steal the ring... IT WILL NOT BE HANDED TO YOU.... BUT IF YOU TAKE IT...... YOU WILL GAIN MY RESPECT and the respect of the others. Hell if you show up and make a sold go at it you gain everyones respect.
