Whoops, I was looking under N for Net 2.0. Instead of M for Microsoft .net Framework.
Although actually, now I don't see it. I see 1.1 and 3.5. It said I already had it when I tried to install net 2.0, but could it have been referring to either of these?
>_> Great. Should I just uninstall one/both of these and install 2.0? If this turns out to be the entire problem, I assure you that I did have NET 2.0. I suppose I was wrong in assuming that I still had it.
Connectivity failure.

Nope. The different versions of .NET Framework are separate runtime environments, not 'upgrades'. You can have 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, 3.5 and 4.0 beta installed simultaneously on the same system. Removing one doesn't affect the others, having the newest one doesn't enable you to run applications written using the older versions.
In short: no need to remove the 3.5. Just remove the 2.0, reinstall and fully patch it.

OK, it seems that you've encountered the issue described here. Try following the instructions there and see if you can remove/repair you .NET 2.0 installation.

Try removing all temporary files for your Windows Update issue. I actually add the the folders to CCleaner's "Custom files and Folders".
Clean up these folders:
C:\Windows\Temp
C:\Users\%USER%\AppData\Local\Temp
You can also right click on the C: drive in My Computer, and click "Disk Cleanup" to get rid of temporary files (and get rid of all that Windows Error Reporting garbage and save you space).

Now, by cleaning up those folders, do you mean delete everything in them?
So, I went there and did the unregister register thing through 'Run...'. But when I went to the installer folder they mentioned in methods 1&3 I didn't see anything regarding net 2.0, only 1.1. Also after doing the command prompt thing they mentioned, it just ended by telling me "to install this product run install.exe" =/
