Helicopter variants of sorts, things mostly used for rough terrain rather then actual flying, and of course hovercraft ships in the style of skimmers that don't get much height, but retain some decent speed.

More or less, i'm wondering about aerial transporting of troops (strike teams [troop transport]/anti-infantry support) and things like gunships (anti-vehicle support). Basically, sort of how Tribes did with their air vehicles.

edit: nevermind, the VTOL thing I missed while i was reading
this is how i think aircraft could fit in; as slow moving, low flying htts/carriers/etc. call it a problem with the atmosphere so that when you go above a certain, relatively low height, the air is to thin for conventional aircraft*. Small aircraft (i.e, ints) could just be hovercrafts, giving them a definate advantage over other, wheeled vehicles, as they can strafe, and would presumably have good accel; much like ints atm.

*The Atmosphere is part what we would call air, and the rest is lithium or helium or something, which floats to the outer edge, and aircraft that try and fly through just fail, as the "air" is to thin for wings to work; aircraft that go to high just fall down until they stabilse again

or, any aircraft that fly over a certain height will stand out and be spotted by 1 or 2 of the orbital laser systems that every faction has in orbit, so they automatically ignore orders to go too high

or we could just nerf air vehicles by saying all soldiers are 'marines' and carry a heat seaker with them!
