Another scenario question

I bitched in game about this very scenario the other day, so I imagine this question is about my comments. In retrospect, I was wrong and docking the miner at the ref was probably the right thing to do in that situation. I had originally ordered the miner to the tech base (about 2-3k away) and was miffed when someone ordered it elsewhere while 4 or so hvy ints were bearing down on it. But it was closer to the ref and after ordered to do so, it unloaded just as the ints reached it. We also got a sudden overwhelming response (like 12 figs) launch to defend it so the ints were podded pretty quickly and the miner lived anyway.

"half a dozen" heavy IC ints with mini 2+ SHOULD pop a Dreg miner long before any D can get there and save it. Send it to the ref every time unless you have a lot of nans out and on/near the miner.
As crono said, you can at least use the miner money to get a new miner plus some goodies.
Of course, sending an empty miner to the ref will get you booted. Such is life.
