That was one of the first things I tried.

Something I am wondering though... since the server looks at hardware configurations to tell accounts from one another, would a change in the operating system itself make the server think I am trying to share my account and keep me from connecting? I am using a dual-boot setup with XP and Vista and I first started playing Allegiance on the XP install. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" />

Does Vista suck or what?

I don't have vista so I don't know for sure, but did you actually remove it as a service (as opposed to just "disabling" it)? I'm not sure about windows firewall, but kernel-level software tends not to be off unless you actually halt the service. AV software, such as Norton, is like that.

Windows Firewall is most likely not the issue here. I also have Ultimate, my firewall is on (ASGS and Alleg set as exceptions) and it works. Try getting out of DMZ and setting your comp as a regular LAN terminal. Also make sure, that ports 2300-2400 (usually marked as MSN Gaming Zone) aren't blocked on router.

deceit wrote:QUOTE (deceit @ Nov 6 2007, 07:13 AM) So I just followed the instructions on the main page, I am even running alleg without mods (just R4 vanilla and the archive / VB runtimes update). This is a kickarse PC with all sorts of sexy bits in it.
Just so that its emphasized;-OS; Vista Ultimate 32-bit, fully updated, no crap user access control either.-Drivers; up to date-No Firewall-No Antivirus-DMZ on Router (means it put me infront of the router) +++ before this gets accused, Alleg fails to connect to server even when ports are forwarded instead of using DMZ. its some sort of Linksys Wireless G router (wireless disabled).Display settings are those that worked before, uh, did I miss anything else?
I know I am appealing to your best intentions and generosity but please respect the information I have given. I have no firewall, and as stated above; I have tried BOTH DMZ and regular lan terminal. I might just break down and install XP but what about the people who don't want to bend over backwards just so they can remain part of the community? Shouldn't this be a reason for the devs to figure out a hotfix that can be released as an R5, or are we just gonna tell the world we're too paranoid and need to have an overprotective system like ASGS to prevent new technology from being able to use classic games like the one this ocmmunity is based on?

You just wrote that you tried forwarding ports (which is not needed anymore). I asked if you are sure if those ports are not BLOCKED by the router (yes, forwarding blocked ports is usually possible).

As for ASGS: it works very fine in your case. You wouldn't be able to see the damn lobby if it was ASGS acting up. The problem lies in Allegiance itself not being able to establish connection with the server, hence my suspection of blocked ports on router.

UPnP Disabled, ports 1-65000 open.

Hmmm... Have you tried enabling UPnP? For some reason my brain makes a vague connection between DPlay and UPnP... (yeah, I'm sorta trying the desperate moves here).
One more thing that comes in mind (very very VERY VERY unlikely, mind the 'very') is that something else is using those ports. It's possible, possible, but not likely /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
I'm really running low on suggestions here :/

I know what issue you are talking about but, the enabling of upnp fubar the dplay... makes it so you cannot connect to lobby. In R3 I had no problems, in R4 I just cant connect to the servers, but the lobby works fine. Sometime the problem lay in DEP so I turned that off because allegiance is as legacy as they get in my library of games.

I have gone through the trouble of uninstalling anti-virus on my old system with windows XP. It doesn't get past exception access violation so forget that (its probabyl what awaits me if I take the time to dual box this system).

*Edit:
Since this looks hopeless, maybe I should just bugger off until this problem gets fixed or I get a computer exactly like someone else's taht can run allegiance correctly.
