Just because you can transfer data at a high rate does not mean you have a fast connection. It just means that once a connection is established, it will transfer fast. Latency is the other statistic, and one that almost all ISPs ignore because frankly, the latency on most residential/business ISPs sucks!
I have dialup and played the whole game with no drops and only minor lag when there was 4 battleships shooting longtoms at my devasator in a sector with 10 bases. My computer never had to download all that stuff at once, since I loaded the map when there were only 4 sectors (at the start). So Tigger seems right.
There were assault ships and battleships coming out of the woodwork, it was insane. I was just happy to be the one that ended the slugmatch with a few wellplaced tac nukes into an expansion. GG! Good Server! Thanks Bacon, Tiger, Ozzy, and other minions.
Where's the pictures?!?

To Punish and Enslave...
QUOTE I'm 99% sure the problem that booted players right after joining was their internet connections. Yes, many said "But I have high-speed!" but unfortunately there are two separate statistics that rate an internet connection, and ISPs only concentrate on one: data transfer rate.
I dont think the ISPs are to blame here.
It seems like the server has a bandwith limit at which it will send the join-info (sector data etc) to the player which is perfectly fine.
If the server would send the data with an upstream of like 100kB/s, it would only need 8 players joining the game at once to overload a 10mbit connection.
To me there seems to be a bug with the "alive" packets not sent during the load or something like that.
Anyways, this is only a problem to games where a lot of info has to be sent on join, ie. a game with 100 sectors /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

same here played about 2 minsAuton wrote:QUOTE (Auton @ Jun 3 2007, 02:51 PM) Yeah, I'll rejoin and it'll auto-join me to yellow, then sit there for a minute or two in the team select, put me into the game for about a second, and kick me right back out into server select.

Didn't know where the hell i was half the time. The map was sooo big the minimap arrow wasnt shown underneath all the sectors... It was a fun game, nonetheless... felt more like a real war with simultaneous battles all over the map and i Think this was what was intended when alleg was designed.
Good work, bacon and everyone involved.
And good job insects on the win.... didn't see it until it happened... when the hell did we lose all those bases?
And where the hell where all of yours?
