Please remove the instructions from
your post then. It's just confusing people. You can readd the lines when ASGS is needed again.
Some more comments on your post:The items in the "What has changed since last week's beta?" section are missing in "What is different between the current Allegiance (R3) and R4 Beta?".As I understand it, the first "Installation problem and workaround" is actually required. So it should be part of the installation instructions. Move it there. People tend (for good reasons) to think they are done when following the installation instructions and won't expect them to continue in another section. The instructions on changing the .reg file are missing information about double-backslashes. You need to clearly state that, because it's very unintuitive and unexpected for non-programmers.-- Cort

They are both requirements if they have not been been before. They probably ought to be in the main instructions. I still think just throwing my installer in the zip would make things a lot easier for people. I just need to take out the version check which as long as the zip is updated with each release, doesn't need to be there anyway. Two people have already had to reinstall Allegiance completely. Specifically this is what my installer does:Checks to make sure it has been put in the same directory of the files needed for R4 (exe, freeimage.dll, artwork folder)Checks that the client in the folder is the latestDeletes allguard.exe if it existsIf both of the checks pass, copies over the exe, freeimage.dll and artwork folder to the regular Allegiance directorySets the reg keys for the art path, exe path, and cfg file (I could also copy over settings from 1.0 but I don't now)Pops up a message saying installation complete and how to run the betaOn the main screen on the installer it describes the problem you'll get if you don't have the Visual C++ 2005 SP1 redistributable package and links to it. It also lists the two known problems from the FAZ R4 Beta thread and has a link to the post saying how to run in -16b mode.

For clarification, I didn't intend to criticise the installer. An installer is necessary for the beta (that also came up as a suggestion when I tried to get people to try the beta yesterday), thanks that you volunteered to do the job.
Just until this is the officially recommended way to get R4, I think the installation instructions have to be improved if you want players to test R4.

PS: I had R4 up and running in <3minutes, but I intuitively used double-backslashes, read the whole post before beginning with the installation, etc. I guess not everybody has the required previous knowledge to follow these instructions. (I assume that's also why yesterday's R4 test didn't take place -- yeah, I'm a bit grumpy about that because I stayed up until 3am for it. /sad.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="sad.gif" />)

Sorry to hear you missed it...
There was a beta test server created last night and we had a pretty long game on it (it lasted until 1:30am BST) we had about 8 ppl playing, it was a good game on BowTie.
I didn't notice any bugs/crashes besides ppl discussing the documented issue with garbled chat.
We had a lot of miners and constructors going, and we noticed the chages to their AI.
I am finding it a lot harder to kill miners in a scout in this release, and the cons build a lot quicker so they are harder to stop /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
Great going guys!

I have done a quick little update to the installer. It now asks you if you would like to transfer your settings from FAZ R3 so you don't have to go reset all your graphics settings, sound settings, etc for the beta. I did also remove the version check I added yesterday.
This is probably the last update as far as functionality. I will update the known issues as needed.

Can we have a link to the installer in the main R4 thread?

Has the installer been updated with the 07.06.24 client?
