What happens if the CM works? Will the missile go to the CM then?

I might be wrong but i dropped cm when missile is very close and it seems to fly right through me to the cm. Like a df coming right at me is not gonna avoid me very well at the last second but it never seems to hit me.

QUOTE Wow, the pitch thing for incoming missiles is really cool. I always thought I was just imagining the different sound
I don't mean to be sarcastic or anything, but don't they teach that in the tutorial?

As for vlad13's comment, I also noticed that releasing chaff just before the missile hits you increases the efficacy of your cm.

Good info overall, bahdoh.

Not really Jell. But if the missle is coming from behind you releasing cm at the last moment increases the chances of it hitting the cm instead of you even if it doesn't get bluffed.

What could indeed explain it in the most simple way is if the CM has an actual hitbox, but I thought it was really just an image and nothing more...

hmmm
your algorithms didnt factor in GM's to tracking

how do they effect missiles?

here's another question for you code monkeys: I heard back a long time ago (like, back in beta I think) that missile lock is affected by signature of the target...don't remember who told me that, though I always kinda assumed it true. So...higher signature makes a target easier for missiles to track, yes or no?

I dont think thats the case, Fal. Sig just determines when you are or are not detected by enemy sensors. He did mention that ships have an ECM value that DOES affect how fast a missle will lock, if it locks.

However, this article does rather explain a fairly simple known fact... Missles are most accurate when fired at a bow or stern aspect, and are most often spoofed when you engage from the flank; the reason for this obviously is that there is a minimal difference between the two solutions.

didn't he say that tracking is accurate at perpendicular movement as well?

QUOTE The case where lock makes the biggest difference to missile tracking performance is when the unlocked prediction is most different from the locked prediction. This would seem to be when target velocity perpendicular to the missile’s direction is maximum.
Ie, what I said... head on the differnce between the two solutions is minimal, but from the side, the difference is maximised. Head on missles hit, crossing shots ususally miss.
