I am hoping for FIOS in the next 3 years to be installed but who knows.

When I build my next house that will be a major consideration as to where I put it.

Same here on the FIOS. I am waiting for Verizon to get it in our area, I am hoping in the next few years. I can't wait.

Comcast "6" Mbit down, 1.5 up. $43/month. Lag in the 30's due to my location. I've seen download speeds of 800 kb/s if the server is fast enough.

8Mbps/512 including national phone calls and calls to Orange mobiles £14.99 per month although I'm right on the edge of the service area so until something or other is upgraded in January I only get 2Mbps/512.

Call the company every year or so and tell them you want a migration reference to move to another provider and you will never pay their published rates is the way it works here.

I was in the dial up camp until recently. I am in a rural area so I figured I was doomed to crappy (36 kbps) dial up for ever but I got a WiFi (well terrestrial 802.11b with a 7 mile range) link installed in Jan, they actually got it working in late Feb. It is a business line 512kbps up/down but I get more like 450 down and 350 up, still not bad, and it beats the piss out of dial up. But it is pricey, $150 a month, I get a static public IP but no mail boxes, etc.

Latency is excellent, 12 ms to their main hub, but their peer networks vary. I get 30 to 40 lag for the regular servers and 40 to 50 for the beta server.

"6mb down, 1.5 mb up" (realistically, 2.5mb down, 1mb up at best) , wireless laptop connected to roadrunner... about $40 US a month /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />
