Saying people played DN over A+ due to nerfed ints is a gross misrepresentation of what really happened. There were many complex issues that went into the the switch, but ints were nerfed FAR before people started running to DN.
The switch was more due to:
-DN added new factions
-DN had a "lobbying" crew who made it their goal to switch servers after nearly every game
-A+ had controversial changes in its later stages such as making IC teleports galvable, changing locations of GAs, and the MIA status of Spunky.
-Noir put up servers that had by far the lowest pings of the time -- and these servers could not "change cores" like we can now.
***-DN was updated MUCH more often -- this is the key one, and the only reason the Community Core is even being talked about now.
Saying that nerfing ints will make the core "not fun" is simply erroneous. I think you may find that a slight nerf to ints may in the macro make games more fun and increased enjoyment. If the nerf does not change what the interceptor flies like, fundamentally, it will not decrease its fun factor. I can agree changing hull types might actually fundamentally change the interceptor -- nerfing fuel will not.
The EXP problem
It's most definitely not everybody's favorite ship Angryangel. Some of us would really like to see Ints be the best at their job (stopping bombers / HTT's) but not best at almost everything.takingarms1 wrote:QUOTE (takingarms1 @ May 18 2008, 12:24 AM) Well the issue is that those wars will start right back up again if you start nerfing everybody's favorite ship.

You must be killing some noobs then. An int takes forever to kill a miner compared to a fig or a sf. It is very hard for an int to solo a miner that has any defense whatso ever. If you are popping the nan then the nan is an idiot because all it needs to do is dump its missiles, fly around low sig, and do strafing nanning runs on the miner...or run off in a random direction and make you chase it. With ints you pretty much HAVE to kill the nan which takes more time and makes miners harder to kill.Picobozo wrote:QUOTE (Picobozo @ May 17 2008, 05:11 PM) I've personally waxed all the miner D and then killed the defended miner with an interceptor many times. The only times I was able to do it with a fighter was when the defense was much less skilled then I was. And god forbid they had ints to defend with in addition to their nan.
The problem is when groups of ints are boosting 3 sectors to kill a miner then boosting home and lowering int hull is not the answer to that. Ints take team work to kill a miner especially against any decent opponent.
I'll tell you when I have big games vs Aarm(which I consider the pinnacle of pug play) Exp vs Exp there are no miners solod by ints.
I do see alot of good ideas coming out of this discussion I must say and we are really flushing out the problems with exp
I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday

My apologies.
pish posh. Give me a 35kb, a hvy int, and the miner will live.
+Edit. To clarify: I'm defending it with my int.

Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.

Lets all just agree that we won't start these "BaH I'm not gonna fly on the CC" posts until we actually have a good reason to do so, OK?
TA: Like I said, that rant wasn't directed at you, your post just set it off. I really don't want to see a rerun of the old core wars because it was $#@!ing annoying to say the least. I'm sure i wasn't the only one who was irritated by the fanboys coming to a game on A+ and virtually shanghai-ing peeps to a DN server.
IDEA :
maybe we should have 1 (or more when needed) representative of each squad on the CC dev team, this might prevent the fanboy-ism and bias which squads have if 1 of their own builds a core and the antagonism they have versus a core made by someone belonging to another squad. Most squads have someone involved in core design so it would probably give the CC a better PR image and a true representation of the community.
