hmmm.... so I got a higher res uv-map set up.
However, for some reason PSE won't let me skew a selection of linked layers, it always just moves the one currently selected.
High resoultion textures needed.

yes, but is within my price range. Some of the computers in the main campus labs have real photoshop (the last version before CS), so i may start doing more work there.
On the other hand, these are nebulaes we're talking about. They are supposed to be flowy and stretched. As long as there aren't objects in your source material the brain intuitively knows are supposed to be a certain shape (i.e. stars, galaxies, etc), there really isn't any need to distort the textures to better conform to the uv-map. One lump really isn't that different from another.

Oh No! Is a section from the Orion nebule sufficient appeasement? I know there's some crappy banding, but I'm not sure what is causing it, it's not in the original.Orion wrote:QUOTE (Orion @ Sep 29 2006, 02:14 PM) Oh ffs. It's "Nebulas" or "Nebulae" not "Nebulaes" /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
MDLfx doesn't force textures to be 16bit does it? If not, then perhaps the engine's texture smoothing is the source.
Also, I noticed a couple errors in the texture pack I posted earlier. And since I've had a couple people ask me about it, this version is in .mdl format, so folks can just extract these to thier artwork folder and be good (make sure you back things up first though).

try using the original artwork tools with YP's front end for them to make the bmp.mdl and see...Adaven wrote:QUOTE (Adaven @ Oct 2 2006, 10:57 PM) Oh No! I just tried mdlc and the masterbat. 1) It crashed allegiance. 2) I viewed the file w/ mdlfx and mdlutility, both showed the file as being 16bit instead of the 24bit .bmp I started with.

No, it is not sufficient. You need to show us more pics. /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />Adaven wrote:QUOTE (Adaven @ Oct 2 2006, 11:57 PM) Oh No! Is a section from the Orion nebule sufficient appeasement?

1) Can you zip those bmp's and i'll mdlc them and see what the issue is.Adaven wrote:QUOTE (Adaven @ Oct 2 2006, 10:32 PM) I just tried mdlc and the masterbat. 1) It crashed allegiance. 2) I viewed the file w/ mdlfx and mdlutility, both showed the file as being 16bit instead of the 24bit .bmp I started with.
2) This is because mdlc converts them to 16bit, though I have compiled a version of mdlc that does them at 24bit. The real issue is 24bit images are bigger, is it worth it? We would need to test their impact on framerate as well. Do we want to move to 24bit images? Its quite simple, allegiance already supports them. All we would have to do is switch to a slightly different version of mdlc.

Belters texs may well need to be started again, depends on what I decided to back up. New HDD will arrive later this week and I'll take a look once I've got windows installed.
