Japan is too small for guns, why do you think they have so many swords?Adept wrote:QUOTE (Adept @ Jan 21 2013, 02:12 PM) But guess what? The gun ban has worked almost perfectly.

Well... perhaps... but firearms are a bit of a double edged sword... on one hand you can be afraid of them... but on the other hand having your own gives you a bit of peace of mind. For instance, if I was unarmed I might be afraid of burgers breaking into my house and killing me and my family... but with a shotgun nearby... just somehow feel a bit safer... of course... most people lack proper training in such things, and probably don't store their firearms in a biometric safe to keep the kids out... but still, you get my point. Then again, as it has been pointed out earlier in this thread, the amount of firearm deaths due to self defense is pretty small.Raveen wrote:QUOTE (Raveen @ Jan 20 2013, 10:49 PM) Isn't one of the issues the fear of violence? Which is presumably exacerbated by the prevalence of firearms as they make violence all that much easier. So one of the underlying issues that causes gun problems is guns.
Now I won't pretend that the fear will go away, it's an issue in the UK too where guncrime is negligible, but surely it'd help?
Mostly white people are the ones calling out racism. It bothers me. This is a fact.Viscur wrote:QUOTE (Viscur @ Jan 21 2013, 12:40 PM) Because your in a minority, whatever thats supposed to mean, doesnt mean you arent able to be racist.
I'll admit know very little about this, but I'm pretty sure NPR ran a bit last week that to me sounded like the '34 legislation didn't outlaw full auto's, only added registration / licensing requirements, and that the full ban didn't occur until the Reagan administration.Camaro wrote:QUOTE (Camaro @ Jan 21 2013, 02:45 PM) After all, when the first NFA law was passed in '34 which banned full auto guns...
Correct. During the Reagan administration they banned the creation of any new full-auto weapons for civilian sales. Existing rifles could be converted to full-auto if you paid all the fees and did all the paperwork prior to Reagan. Currently any of those firearms still in existence are Class 3 firearms and still transferable to civilians. Given the rarity of these, they command a very high price.Adaven wrote:QUOTE (Adaven @ Jan 21 2013, 03:59 PM) I'll admit know very little about this, but I'm pretty sure NPR ran a bit last week that to me sounded like the '34 legislation didn't outlaw full auto's, only added registration / licensing requirements, and that the full ban didn't occur until the Reagan administration.
One of you is wrong. I'm too busy/lazy to look up the story I heard atm, but if you are right and have good links to back it up, I'd be willing to spend the time and effort to send them an angry letter for you.
I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who worries about burgers coming into my house at night, I get worried about those looks the Big Mac's give me.Camaro wrote:QUOTE (Camaro @ Jan 21 2013, 07:45 PM) Well... perhaps... but firearms are a bit of a double edged sword... on one hand you can be afraid of them... but on the other hand having your own gives you a bit of peace of mind.
