I will gladly help clean up/polish/add javascripty goodness to bacons work in a week or so, once I have no assignments to do :)

As long as I have a good design and content given to me, I can generally make a good site out of it, if you ignore the total lack of content, this shows that I'm reasonably competent (note the xhtml/css validation and resizability) :)

Although my use of javascript is a little limited, I have used it a bit (specifically this is an assignment I did for uni, note the shopping cart functionality, yes I realise it's fugley as hell, it wasn't a design module :P ).

Anyway, thats my resume, assuming no complaints/nobody gets in there first ill try shinifying the page some time next week.

EDIT: I hadn't yet given my opinion of bacons work: very nice, definitely a great improvement.

EDIT2: erg. I'd forgotten how ugly that assignment was...

Keep it up Bacon buttie and take your time with it. :nono: There is no rush or pressure to get it out immediately, rather do it nice or have to do it twice. Anyone who has some experience of this, would not be bothered in the slightest if you got your crayons out and scanned the results for us to see.

We have a whole troop on here who will run their beady eyes over the end code for you to make sure it is all tickety boo, and I am sure one of the smarter bright sparks can write a little class (we can name it Bacon class) for the style sheet for you if you needed it.

We have you and your piglets back cover! :)

TBH, I really like the style & simplicity of the page as it currently is; it just needs more. Why don't you guys just focus on adding content, video/screenshots, rather than trying to revamp the style with something that (in my professional opinion) doesn't look as good.

In my opinion I think some soft of balance between the two pages might be best. I think both pages have strengths and weaknesses. I personally prefer to stay concise and would cut a lot of text out of both pages. I think the same info can be said in a lot less words.

I think Bacon has some good improvements in his page, but at the same time it doesn't look as professional as the page we have now. I think a lot of the graphics on the Bacon's page should be reworked and the text cut down.

Arial? Blech :P

The game uses these fonts: tahoma and... some variant of Microgramma.

Hey sorry for the absence the past 2 days, I was up at another house teaching myself to drive a stick shift (with varying degrees of success....) =P

I'll work on the 3rd draft a bit tonight. I want to re-do the images for the weapons/tech/ships and make that all look a little more professional if I can.

As for "streamlining" the code on the page, My HTML/Javascripting is very basic... what you see is what you get. I will be unable to do any "validating" of the code or really anything beyond what you see. Somebody else will have to do that. I took care to format it/organize it as I wrote, though, so it should be pretty easy to edit it. If somebody would be willing to do that, let's wait till I get a version up that people are more or less happy with (and by "people" I mean TE =P) and then edit that "locked" version. I'd hate to have somebody spend the time to fix my code then have me muck it up again with a revision.

Anyway, for draft 3, this is what I gather what people want changed:

-My weapons/tech/ships graphics need re-doing.
-Put up a different video than the random dogfights one (or supplement it w/ a 3rd video).
-Change the font from arial (personally I think arial looks fine, but I'll try Tahoma).
-Edit down my text to be more concise.
-Possibly add a "Newbie Quick Start" link.
-Try to make it more "professional" (unsure what I'm capable of doing to achieve this. Obviously I am no professional, but I can try to spruce up the graphics a bit).

I would recommend that if (as you say) your HTML/javascripting is very basic, you avoid doing the nitty gritty and focus on "the big picture". Make a mock-up and let someone else make it pretty, and then someone else implement it (In valid XHTML/javascript, and without tables or inline CSS and javascript.)

You gonna do it?

See, the problem is that you are very quick to offer suggestions. However, if you have the skills to make that same webpage w/o tables and all in DIVS and w/o inline CSS (the CSS part I could probably do at this point... I was teaching myself basic CSS as I made the page), then why not take my page and do it?

One of the reasons I did this whole thing was because I had a lot of suggestions, but knew that nobody was actually going to do it, regardless of if they agreed with me. So, even though my skills are limited, I went ahead and did it.

So if you are critical of my use of tables and in-line CSS, then fix it. Don't talk about it. Fix it and send me the .html file. I'll gladly accept it. Heck, I'll even "freeze" any additions until you get me the updated file.

I'm not trying to be a jerk here -- suggestions are always welcome -- but I am no expert in any of this. Telling me to "focus on the big picture" is silly, because I have no expertise in "the big picture." I just had an idea and decided to do something about it. If you have suggestions in an area I am unable to deliver in (such as cleaner code), do something about it.

I think somebody else said that they'd do the HTML/Javascript when free time allows, which is great. However, Orion, since you seem to know enough web design to be able to do that page with cleaner code, why not do it yourself?

Because in order for me to do any more development related work with Allegiance, I need a commitment from certain members that @#(! is going to move forward.

You have no idea the hundreds of man hours I have put into this game over the past few months, and now it is all effectively frozen because of conflicting interest and time commitments (or lack thereof) from certain members of the community who said they were going to help with and support the project but ended up not doing so.

So I do have an interest in guiding you/giving advice to you, but not in actually contributing in a material manner until certain other requirements outside of this little project are met so that I may continue my work. Having all your work wasted because someone, who is obliged to put in a small amount of time into your project, cannot or will not is frustrating as hell.

Of course expressing your feelings and frustrations will never get you anywhere when the person whose attention you need basically pisses on you every time you address them, so yeah, I'm done helping. I've bled enough for now.

Oh I feel so sorry for you.

My goal w/ that post was to get you to stop posting in this thread, actually. I can't stand you, regardless of what you're trying to achieve. Success!
