People need to stop trying to live forever. You're going to die. People dying is not the worst thing that can happen. Living with trauma/permanent injury is much worse. People who are dead are not suffering. There's no reason to feel bad for someone who is dead. You feel bad because YOU feel bad. Mourning is a selfish thing. Humans are inherently selfish. Every act you've ever made is at its core, selfish. The best thing you can do is what you can to enjoy your life and improve your quality of life and others. I'd rather have a random school shooting now and then than have to worry about my government putting me in a camp, or being invaded by another country and having little way to defend myself and others. Your child dies? Have another kid. Have 5. Maybe 4 will live. There are too many people on the planet and our population growth is unsustainable. As long as we keep breeding like mad it's just going to lead to more deaths and lower quality of life for everyone. The more people there are, the more distant we are from each other. It'd be pretty difficult for most people to go and blast their next-door neighbor's head off for no reason. Someone you don't know? Not such a big deal. The more people there are in any given area, the less likely it becomes that you ever see the same person twice. You don't care about people you don't know. Why should you? They're going to die eventually, anyway.

There is no good way to deal with so many people.
People need to stop reproducing.

This is why Adept's Eutopian Finland idealism doesn't work outside of Finland.
1. everyone in Finland is basically the same race/culture
2. (and this is really the more important part) Finland is tiny. It's easy to effectively deal with a small number of people. The more people there are, the more levels of government are required to keep order, the more corrupt/disorganized/inefficient everything becomes.

Government is needed because humans are inherently selfish, but because humans are required for government, government doesn't work. The less government, the better. The more people there are, the more is needed. The best thing we could do is become the United States ARE and not the United States IS. Things function much better on a smaller scale. Let the states government themselves and handle their own population. People don't really have state-wide pride, because states don't mean anything. Why should you care about anyone else in your state, at this point? People have country-wide pride, which is very vague and mostly stupid because the country is HUGE and there's TOO MANY PEOPLE.

I've never found myself so completely agreeing with Night or completely in shock of bunny. This thread continues to amaze me.

I sincerely hope you are being sarcastic?

Edit: For completion. Oh look, it's a father teaching its kid how to shoot the 50 round-mag Glock. Culture at its best.

I learned to handle a firearm/shoot when I was like 5. Guess how many shooting sprees I've gone on? Or accidental weapons fire?

My step brother, on the other hand, never was taught anything about anything, and then as soon as he got his hands on a gun, immediately blasted a big hole in the wall on accident (right next to our bunk bed).

I don't believe gun control can stop every mentally ill person. On the other hand,
when they created the 2nd ammendment(right to bear arms), the country was smaller.
It also had muskettes, that probably took 3 minutes to reload between rounds. maybe
they can modify laws, on these assault weapons.

Accident huh?

just out of curiosity, was the hole closer to your bunk or his? Did you ever notice a bitter, almondy taste when he made the smores?

When you are a nobody living in you're mom's basement surrounded by a bunch of sheeple, you may start having feelings of hate for the sheeple. I assume this kid hated his mom for making him feel guilty because he doesn't "do something with himself". I'm sure there are plenty of others like him. I'm sure plenty commit suicide. We don't hear about them because the media doesn't give a crap about them. They didn't murder 20 children and 6 adults.

I've said it before, and even here I was saying it's a factor of whether your voters decide to make it so.

It's entirely up to you yanks. I'm perfectly happy living in a country with a fraction of the gun violence you guys have, and fewer if still way too many guns. I rather agree with ducky. As long as you guys choose to have the place be full of guns, make the choice with open eyes and accept that it will mean lots of people dying by the gun every year. If it ever changes, it will because the majority of the voters get fed up with it, not any time before.

I was going to go with "I'll bet the warden was pissed".

Then I was tempted by "Give him a break, he only just got the gun, nobody is born with great aim".

Decisions, decisions.
