Getting one of our most active Devs banned iisn't something Im doing rather it's something he did to himself. Never-the-less I see it as an extremely positive thing that no one is above the rules. Do we enforce the rules or not?madpeople wrote:QUOTE (madpeople @ Mar 22 2007, 01:01 PM) i just don't like the way your trying to get one of our most s
sure it may not be fair, but ignoring the helpful contributions people make when judging them is silly.
and kicking up a fuss about what someone did 7 years ago when they are mostly helpful now is silly too.
everyone seems to have moved on from this topic except you. if you wish to continue your campaign against YP with your senator, fine, that's one of your freedoms.
p.s. yp didn't intend the forums to be shut down, pook just wanted to go to bed and didn't want to have to see what the forums would look like in the morning with threads like those, given the way this community responds to drama it was a good decision (to protect us from our selves).
now, given pook doesn't want to persue this latest outburst,
that mainly leaves what he did over 7 years ago, and he hasn't done any of that recently...
i say just get over it, let this topic die
Obviously YP's role in the whole CG mess was not known by most evident by the very first post after mine. Hey you want to look at the whole YP it's very relevant, AND relevant to the question of is appropriate to his bannage.
Personally I think we should just look at the stupidity, the evidence, look at the chart. Less drama and appearance of back room shenanigans.
Finally YP didn't intend to unleash the CG mayhem, he didn't intend to get my and others email addys sniffed by a financial spammer site via forum link here, and he didn't intend to get the forums shutdown.
Nope he just intended to circumvent the rules, thumb his nose at authority, and repeatedily break the rules while doing it. The unintended result was he only got the forum shut down this time.
If you insist upon looking at the entire sum of YP my guess is there's more of this stuff. Personally I don't think it's a good for YP but * meh * your call.

Oh and Im glad to see Pook isn't holding a personal grudge over the matter. Im not surprised tbt

I wasn't quoting history but i was basing my event mapping on the few issues i have experienced first hand.
Most issues are handled well, its the few that are not that cause more than enough problems that SOMTHING should be done to spare us the drama.
For the short time it would take to instate this the amount of peaceful time to be gained in the future should be more than worth it.
Note, Im not saying anything has been, in the end handled poorly by admins but if you can spare yourself the stupidity caused by the backlash of bans why not?
I also feel that this needs to be said again for the non admin community...QUOTE People need to learn if you freak out and do something against the rules if you have been ban/booted for a short period
YOU WILL GET BANNED LONGER
Please continue banning people for long periods of time until they learn this.[/quote]

Beyond the clock tower.
Man...and I thought I had no life. Always glad to see there are others like YP, Aeris etc. who are far worse then I am. Excellent! Snack feeling better now. /mrgreen.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="mrgreen.gif" />

You know, I just don't understand whining as an active passtime.
Sure, I regularly get a whiny tone in my voice when I don't like something, but it's not like anything ever gets solved simply because I whined. People just look at me like I'm a maladjusted wanker and call me out for being childish.
What can you gain by whining?
Best case scenario: people ignore your post
Average case scenario: you get lumped in with the other whiners tempoprarily and people figure it's a heated thread and you just happened to come off like a dumbass
Worst case scenario: people refuse to listen to you whether you're whining or not.
If you want to affect change, find a way to do it without sounding like a petulant toddler who's had the toys taken away.
It's not like you don't have other options here.

And I've got to wonder why noone has come up with the common sense response here.
It seemed to have happened multiple times throughout Allegiance's history if the webarchive is any indication, but with all of the apparently unsatisfied people on any given issue, I'm not seeing anyone presenting solutions.
Want a rants forum back?
Get a webserver, take donations, and host it. You can control administrative rights to your heart's content and not have to pay a penny for it once people start donating.
Want an allegiance server with your own rules?
Publish the IP address and connection instructions. We managed to get back in game within a matter of minutes when the DNS for the lobby went down and we seem to have a great ability to pass information to each other over IRC and teamspeak, both of which are completely outside of this particular forum.
The allegiance community itself has broken down to less than a few dozen people in the past if my web skills at finding forum archives from the past have served me well.
There's no reason we can't split again and survive if the demand to do so is high enough.
Tired of what you call bull@#(!? Be an activist. Stop printing fliers via forum post and start taking effective bull@#(!-free action to further your cause. Anyone who agrees with you will follow you.
