I would rather increase their capacity before nerfing it. Even if it has little use, high capacity is one of the defining things about giga miners. Hell, I would almost be willing to give them double capacity just because of how poor it is practically. Would lead to an interesting dynamic with them.

The only reason increasing capacity would benefit them is either on silly settings with loads of HE in a rock, or (with a big increase) to allow one miner to strip two rocks in one trip, allowing you to split your miners and have two pairs in different sectors and still mine efficiently. Which is nice, but you need to be able to defend them...

And it's not really a defining feature since the extra capacity isn't ever really used, It's like saying they have more CMs or missiles than any other faction's miner, yeah, it's nice, but drones don't use CMs or missiles.

i'd seriously give them 1.2 yield back... it needs a serious revamp to be considered for SG play

How would it be an interesting dynamic? Interesting in that they mine in exactly the same way?

Giga is not meant to be about "CAPACITY". It's meant to be about a good economy. Yield is a good economy, it is an efficient economy. Capacity is wasteful.

No other group has an increase to miner capacity. Most have significant reductions in it.

I would rather increase their one remarkable miner trait to the point of being useful than bring it back down to everyone else's level and make them more like other economically efficient groups.

Increasing their capacity would not make them 'mine in exactly the same way', they would have the capacity to go to distant sectors with a single miner and strip the area clean. I would rather them have the a yield nerf and a capacity and speed increase, giving them the ability to economically destroy sectors than see the opposite occur. They are about a good economy, but they are also about being greedy and wasteful.

You are NEVER ever going to use that capacity unless you take 10 minutes microing one miner to mine all the rocks or are playing Scarce+ or Equal with High money etc.

I always thought it was stupid myself. Some good ideas in here as well.
I'm sorry I don't remember any of it. For you the day spideycw graced your squad with utter destruction was the most important day of your life. But for me, it was Sunday

No, and no. If ANY commander did that, I'd mutiny. Unless you want to increase the miner's speed (actual speed) to the point where it became broken, spending ten minutes mining two sectors with one miner is a stupid idea because 1. if it dies, you've crippled your economy and 2. you're not getting money to actually buy tech.

It is not useful to increase capacity at all. It is NEVER used, unless you are playing on Scarce or have ridiculous total money (1.5 or more). Mining more than one rock is always inefficient, it is much more economical to mine a single rock and move on, because you need constant cash flow in order to keep expanding and buying tech.

Using "flavour" to balance a faction is silly. Giga sucks, and their economy is not as flash as it should be. In fact if its economy was perked, you wouldn't have to perk a lot of other things like base hull/shield because you'd actually be able to afford lots of bases unlike now.

Is it "flavour" that bios has a 10 minute research time but half price?

Yes, Giga should have a good economy. Yes, capacity will do very little to help them in this.

My point is merely that currently the only thing their miners are unique for is their higher capacity. No other group has this aspect of miners emphasized at all. I would rather see the gather efficiently from long distance thing of miners be done well, the short range high efficiency has been done by TF, the long-range low risk has been done by IC, Dregs have slower* but very efficient miners.

I support increasing their yield, and believe this would solve many of their problems, but was merely trying to express the point that it would be better to buff their capacity than nerf it, as it is a defining (if not that great) feature.

You don't have to keep a feature because it's currently unique, you can make a different feature unique.

Additional capacity is pointless unless taken to silly levels and combined with the broken speed incresaes.

QUOTE and make them more like other economically efficient groups[/quote]
err, hello? giga is supposed to be the most ecconomically efficient faction if you read their back story, it's their money making corporate identity which is responsible for cutting all the corners resulting in weak hulls for everything.
A faction which is all about making money wouldn't enhance a feature of their ships which doesn't make them any more money and is a total waste, they would however, focus on makinig their refinement process much more efficient so they can make more money out of every piece of he3 they get (i.e. increase yeild!)

I've seen true use gotten out of the capacity exactly once, in a SG vs. BS. QDY was our com, and the settings were just right so that a giga miner sucked two rocks and was then full. We were stripmining the map, 2 miners under me, two under Crono.

It felt like wasteful megacorp capitalism at it's best/worst :P

But seriously, that's the only time the capacity has really payed off that I've seen. Even that was basically just us getting fancy and having fun with a silly faction.
