...um, dude, you realize that your character and behavioral history DO mitigate both US and UK sentences, right? Frequently?Raveen wrote:QUOTE (Raveen @ Mar 23 2007, 04:32 AM) Well yer honour, I *did* shoot that bloke in the face, but I'm normally a lovely person who volunteers with homeless people and looks after fluffy kittens. Anyone who breaks the rules should be punished for it irrespective of who they are. If I were to catch Pook being hostile to newbies and whoring on the newbie server I'd ban him. Same goes for anyone else all the way from Nebie McNewberson to Thal.

People need to learn if you freak out and do something against the rules if you have been ban/booted for a short period
YOU WILL GET BANNED LONGER
Please continue banning people for long periods of time until they learn this.
To some end this type of behavior is a misunderstanding between the committed actions and the Admins and then another misunderstanding between the Admins and the community.
Example:
1.) 6 Vets report Mastametz harassing Vet#337
2.) Admins see they need to act do so with standard RoC ban
3.) Mastametz gets a standard ban time for harassing Vet#337
4-A) Mastametz sees he is banned for harassing Vet#337 and gets angry
4-B) Friends of Mastametz see he has been banned for harassing Vet#337 and get angry
5-A) Mastametz receives extra ban time for inappropriate fuming
5-B) Friends of Mastametz get warned/banned
6-Z) Rinse and repeat alphabet items until everyone is banned and/or realizes they are stupid.
7.) Turns out Mastametz and Vet#337 where on TS and havening supplemental a joke conversation in game.
8-X) Oh wait, Mastametz and friends already reaffirmed their banns.
9.) If Mastametz had been appropriate he would only have a 1hr ban for inappropriate language
There is a way to minimize the alphabetically labeled steps of "FreeAllegiance Drama" if not prevent.
My suggestion being a buffer, or temporary ban before the any ban being longer than 3 days is put in place.
This would make people see a temp ban and investigate whats in the works, rather than seeing their Friend/Squady banned for 2 months and start attempting to burn the Admins at the stake, and as we all know a fire attracts a crowd.

Beyond the clock tower.
I like it, but you have a few extra steps in there, which hold the key to the problem you describeRand0m_Numb3r wrote:QUOTE (Rand0m_Numb3r @ Mar 22 2007, 03:42 PM) Example:

Pay close attention to the parts in bold. See how the entire situation was a non-issue? Very good. Now see how the people who realized that it was a non-issue were banned because they informed the "people" (read: Board residents) of this through their bans? Good. Now you're thinking with Portals.
Leaving us with several community members who are banned because they were right. If people had used their brains and waited for the party harmed to come forward, none of this would have happened. Instead, we have some very not-smart looking admins, and more people upset over the mishandling of the situation.
So explain to me what that had to do with anything? /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
"Don't screw around with the $#@!head. Trust the $#@!head."
"Has done some good stuff before" (which is what Rav was talking about, and which you claim does have impact on both UK and US legal systems) does not equal "first time offender" (which you now claim Rav was talking about, which he wasn't).Terralthra wrote:QUOTE (Terralthra @ Mar 22 2007, 09:17 PM) Leniency for a first time offender is a sign that a justice system sucks?
I'd hate to see a legal system you approve of.
Legal systems I approve of can be summed up as "Don't be a dick". Playing lawyer, looking for loopholes, and treating other people without basic decency all count as being a dick.

RT: The number of typical responses decreases exponentially as the number of joke options increases.

Having "done some good stuff before" can result in a sentence being 20 years, not life, for shooting someone in the face. First time offenders was another example, not rephrasing of what Rav said. I'd rather some of the good I did in my life result in 20 years instead of life, or maybe no jail time for a first time offense.

Thank you, I had been wondering what happened way back then
Mad? Oh yes, quite mad.
