Big list of thoughts about Alleg, Steam & noobs.
And have you SEEN Microsoft's Flight Simulator? The old school planes might be simple but those things simulate 747s.

Don't find fault, find a remedy; anybody can complain.

Definitely need the training missions and there isn't really anything wrong with them other than the keymap not matching (thought this was going to be fixed before launching on Steam) and the very rare bug(s) that only affect training missions. Tutorial videos are not a suitable replacement.

There is a separate keymap for training now so as to match the voice commands.AEM wrote:QUOTE (AEM @ Oct 4 2017, 03:36 PM) Definitely need the training missions and there isn't really anything wrong with them other than the keymap not matching...
Agree about the tutorial videos. Nobody is going to remember enough to apply it to real flight. Might be helpful as a supplement though.

I understand there is a separate keymap that still matches the voice commands but that is a poor solution. At a minimum we need the training missions keymap to be the same as the default. That wouldn't take much effort at all, although it would be better to know for sure what the default keys are going to be before re-recording audio.
Preferably we would have audio that doesn't include the keys, only stating the action. At the same time pop up a message saying what key to press (it would pull from the user defined keymap (though we'd have to make sure that required keys are bound to something).
Since this should be corrected asap, we should probably go with the first option for now.
Hadn't tried training on steam so didn't know this. Certainly the Training button should keep you in game and not open a link. Worse it does it every time you launch Allegiance and doesn't remember. If you want people to have the Begin Playing info put in inside the first training mission (with any additional information in the help menu with directions to find it). The first training mission is rather brief and should be rewritten anyway.Xynth wrote:QUOTE (Xynth @ Oct 4 2017, 01:47 PM) Currently, the training missions open on a second press of the training button. This is instructed on the Begin Playing landing page they are sent to.
I'm convinced the training missions are cancer.
You have to be a really stubborn bastard to get through them.
See the video by the guy "sidechain" in the playlist.
I'm sure it's not an isolated incident.
I suggest each and every one of us give the training missions to a friend or relative and watch them without helping.

The newbie I quoted earlier has said this on Discord:
QUOTE Soo, I've played about 5h, and I have to say that I'll stop playing now.
The visible problems and my first impression wasn't good at all, even though I had fun in the game at various times, but a lot of stuff on it is just not user-friendly, and I can't get over it, the UI all over each other, small text has the worst quality, a cluter of information, everyone that is a vet uses game slang for their stuff and then yell at new players for not knowing it or doing stuff (ofc they don't know, they're new..)
Resolution problems, crashing, lag spikes where you see someones ship teleport all over the place and suddenly you're podded. Apparently even after a server switch it continued but oh well, we newbies made a vet 'rage quit' from what he stated, and we tried our best but we're new, we don't understand @#(!.
If we have multiple moniters and we scroll in-game it will also scroll on our second monitor on whatever program we have in-front..
UI is outdated and bad (coloring, stuff on top of each other), tutorial just makes us even more confused so we just get told to not do it, models are old but can still be enjoyable.
I don't know what to say, I really want to like this game but jesus, it's old and smallest details and good stuff that should be fixed wasn't fixed at Steam Release, and I don't think it will, if it wasn't for years and years.. probably will take years once more just to get a better thing going.
Anyways thank you for everyone that played with me, may this game raise to where it deserves.[/quote]

Spin, this discord quote is spot on.
Allegiance is my favorite game of all time, the one I've spent the most time playing in my life. Over half of the most epic moments I've experienced while playing a video game are from Allegiance. No game ever game close to Allegiance in creating epic situations.
I played a game earlier. My gaming comp is currently not working, so I played on my laptop. I didn't plug my joystick (laziness, i know).
I must say that if I never played Allegiance before and tried it for the 1st time in 2017 I would not have stuck up with it.
Controls:
Allegiance was made to be played with a Joystick. In 2000, flight sims were very popular and most flight sims fans had a Joystick. In 2017, almost every game on the market can be played naturally with a mouse. Many Allegiance players became very good at playing the game with a mouse, but it's far from natural. I tried Star Citizen with a mouse, it is enjoyable from the start. There's no unnecessary learning curves about the controls (and they are much more complicated than allegiance's). I think that suggesting using a joystick somewhere could make players who own a joystick plug it before trying the game. Players, in 2017, don't expect to have to plug a joystick to play a flight simulator and a suggestion could help. If they end up trying with their mouse 1st, they might think the game is much harder than it is.
I won't repeat what was very clearly said earlier, but we must be aware that the game didn't age well.
Allegiance has an unmatched level of possible epicness, but in its current state, I think it's buried deep under several layers of issues that most won't bother going through.
