srsly, is it really that expensive?
how much do you need to make a kick ass server on a kick ass connection? Given our player base, what would you think is adequate and then multiply that by 5 and then let me know.

Not making any sacrifices. Only testing briefly to see what specs are needed for a stable server. Prices are not that high but it does double in cost each time you move to next higher server type.. No reason to pay for higher specs than required.
The server we have been using costs $175 per month and is not worth the cost. Migrating what I have on it to Amazon Web Services which will save a good amount of money without sacrificing quality.

I had the same reaction.
I'm not sure when the move was made but last weekend playing on US1 (I believe) it was very laggy and lots of people were crashing to desktop.
Lots of players were complaining the lag spikes and the game freezing up.

The move was done right when I posted on Jun 29. Not sure why US1 would have been laggy. First time I ever heard that for Allegiance or the other game server I have on it. Although US1 is gone, good to send me a PM when there are any server issues so I can see what is happening. There may very well be server issues this weekend due to testing servers, sorry. But if there are let me know and I will work on it as soon as I can.
US1 is on a premium host with excellent data center, networking, and support. The price would have been well worth it if the server itself had decent specs (probably closer to $300). With Amazon the network is mostly equivalent, but now there is much more control over specs and can get better performance for less.

Lots of issues on the new USA server.
A few Euros were unable to play at all today. They had to play on Mach.
Those of us located in North America were getting lots of lag spikes.
In 1 game I was jumping all over the map until I was disconnected from the game.
Appreciate what you do AEM but thought you would want to know.

I'm guessing that the issues with the Euro's was in their route to the server.
I had an exceptional connection which played rather smoothly on USA. Mach however, was awful. I'll bet within a week, it'll be working.

As I said it is good to PM me if there are server issues so I can see for myself. I get notifications of PMs so I can check right away. This seems to confirm that the current server instance is indeed not suitable though, at least without disabling the GUI.
To be clear the network used by the new server is comparable in quality to the old. We have tested it with Allegiance already and everyone said it was working perfectly. I have also Amazon servers for another game and know the network is solid.
The only question I have is what is the least expensive server instance that will have perfectly stable performance. I would think the only issue right now is not enough RAM.

There have been countless network issues with Euro's connecting to US servers over these many years. If this was a resource issue at the server, wouldn't the US players have noticed it?
Seems logical that when all the players who are reporting issues are across the waters, and players who are nearer the server experience smooth gameplay with low pings.
I'm not suggesting that resources aren't needed to be improved, just that in this instance, the pipeline appears to be in question. I'll bet by next weekend, those reported issues will disappear.

EU players shouldn't have any issues playing on the server unless they have a poor internet connection or consider whatever ping they have too high for Allegiance (typically 80-130ms depending on location and ISP). Papsmear said players in North America were having issues, so it was not just EU players anyway.
I disabled the GUI this morning in case that helps. However, it only seems to save around 100MB of memory so I am very doubtful it will be enough. But as I said the price doubles with every increase in server specs so want to be sure before moving up. The next higher server instance is the one we tested previously and everyone said worked perfectly when we tested it before.
If the game was active I could figure this out within minutes, but it is difficult to know what will work when we rarely have players on.
