Adding a new default inputmap to the installer was refused, because it will brake the training missions...

This is fixed within R8:

For real that we delayed the keymap settings for a training mission that is nearly never used?

Sorry but that was a bad call. Really bad call...

Never used ... by vets. But the default keymap is not about vets, it's about new players. How many new players, you suppose, first learn the important keybindings from the training mission? I'd guess quite a few.

What kind of experience would it be to learn a set of keybindings in the training mission, only to learn upon entering the real game that the training mission has taught you nothing but lies and the real keymap is something different?

I agree.
I still think that the training missions are somewhat useful, they provide the very foundation on which to build.

The game (R8) sends private messages telling player what to press and those keys are loaded from the inputmap1.mdl (so any default keymap will work correctly). The voice though will say the old default controls but its just a few misses (we can send a pm to the playing saying she is a lying bitch and that the confusion is a part of the training :P ).

I'll record new voice messages for the whole thing if someone can provide me with the old voice file(s) and the new default keymap.

Then we can run a poll to see how many people can tolerate my new voice-over. :blah:

again? (*hugs all the latest people enthusiastically saying the same damn things with the same enthusiasm as the last bizillion times* This is not in any way meant for you... although I do have to say the VO is always the first and generally only thing anyone seems to come right and volunteer to do)

JUST CHANGE THE GOD DAMN KEY BINDINGS ALREADY YOU WILL NEVER PLEASE EVERYONE AND NO ONE IN MUMBLE MUMBLE YEARS HAS "FIXED" THE $#@!ING GOD AWFUL TRAINING MISSIONS

$#@! THE TRAIINING MISSIONS
$#@! THE ENDLESS DEBATE ABOUT THE KEY MAP
$#@!ING JUST DO IT

TYPED HOLDING DOWN THE SHIFT KEY TO EMPHASIS MY THOUGHT

edit: solution, just add random fart noises and Monty Python phrases to the training mission and see how ofter someone even notices. My guess is it a rare bird who gets deep enough in the mission to be FUBARed by the key binding change. Or... get someone to fix it.

Oh it is taken care of in R8...

WOOT
(I did in fact hold down the shift key again)
