sigh.. it just sucks when stuff never gets done. do what you think is essential. no need for votes. we trust youz.

Well, I trust me, too. But if I just make one myself and use that without anybody else's input, it'd probably be pretty good but would undoubtedly lead to drama.

I tend to agree with Dome, can we please stop getting a vote for everything we do in alleg? Keymap is an immediate thing, as long as you don't insist on your first approach as the "true and only" way, then please just do what you think is the most appropriate at the moment, I doubt many would complain as long as the keymap is simple enough (i.e. newbies won't have to learn all of the 114 keys, and especially because majority of the current players will have nothing to do with the default keymap anyway). If you feel it needs improvement, then you can always tune in on the background bitching noise, or just ask people for feedback/alternatives later...

P.S. :

In my view (and majorly irrelevant now as I don't play), you would only need to map these functions :
6 Thrusters (WASD + possibly RF) and Roll (QE)
Ripcord, Chaff, Deploy Cargo (possibly C V for the last two?)
Swap and Jettison Cargo (Ctrl +D Ctrl +S or +F whatever fits best and is next to jettison cargo)
And Basic targetting that a newbie would need, i.e. target centre, target nearest, target bomber/miner.

Okay, here's my entry: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/713 ... utmap1.mdl

W - increase throttle
S - decrease throttle (throttle controls tend to be used more than direct thrust forward. If newbies can't find these they'll be unable to stop when they want to, and spend all game holding down W - annoying!)

shift-W - thrust forward
shift-S, X - thrust back (backpedalling is a useful thing to be able to do - mapping it to both of these makes in more likely to be found by accident.)
A - thrust left
D - thrust right
ctrl-W - thrust up
ctrl-S - thrust down
Tab - booster

shift-A - roll left
shift-D - roll right (This defies convention - a lot of games have Q and E mapped to roll. In Allegiance, however, rolling is rarely necessary.)

space - toggle mouse control (Having a big button for this encourages flying with the mouse. This mapping is also consistent with Freelancer I believe.)
R - reload
ctrl-R, L - Ripcord (reversed from original. R is often used as reload in FPSs, and ripcording in Allegiance is more often done via autopilot.)

C - drop chaff (C is for Chaff)
G - drop mines/probe (not the best mapping, but it's close to WASD and not used for targeting.)
K, Z - cloak (K is for Kloak, right?)

V - vector lock (V is for Vector lock)

= - next cargo
- - drop cargo (Put them on the number row with the rest of the inventory controls.)

Q - target center (Possibly most important button that newbies don't realise they need. Put it nice and close, where they'll find it accidentally while trying to roll.)
E - target enemy (E is for Enemy)

F - target friendly (F is for Friend. Do you think I'd be good at Sesame Street?)

B - target base (B is for Base)
T - target enemy base (T is for Targetenemybase. ...that was a stretch.)

That's the gist of it. Most of the rest are defaults I think.

w has to be up thrust
a has to be left thrust
s has to be down thrust
d has to be right thrust

f has to be reverse thrust

q has to be left roll
e has to be right roll

tab boost default but a lot of players can change to what they like. BUT TAB BOOST IS MOST COMMON SO USE IT.

rest use academy wiki default FFS

Masta brings to my attention that in many games W is forward and I admit that is true, but since you launch from base already going full thrust you dont need w as foward thrust. You only need to hold forward thrust in special cases like when bombing. Toggling throttle should be + and - imo.. different from the academy wiki mapping...

So it makes sense to me to have forward thrust be something like 't', which is different from the academy mapping too I guess.

Anyways I guess this debate will never die. This is a part of Allegiance by now. I've accepted. LIVE ON KEY MAPPING DEBATE. LIVE ON!!! WE WILL NEVER LET THE NOOBS HAVE BETTER THAN THE DEFAULTTT

w - up
shift + w - forward (small adjustments only)
a - left
s - down
shift + s - backward (small adjustments only)
d - right
z - left roll
x - next enemy
c - right roll
q - chaff
e - mines/probes
I also use an extra mouse button for backthrust but I used this setup before I had the mouse too.

Most everything else is unchanged I believe. Learning what number does what and what modifier does what to those numbers is important.

inputmap1.mdl

When is the release date ?
Can we allocate storage on the ACSS server for keymaps and loadouts for every user (is there enough storage space) ?
