it's just that people do movies either for money/greed/it's 'just a job' or for love and passion of their craft.

You can always tell the motivation. it shows.

+1 to op except the iron man part. When we saw it in theaters i almost fell asleep (only partly because of the booze that had been drunk)

They did also kill off the female M and replace with one of the sausage variety. And she took the shot over her objections when directly ordered to do so.

/addition

I really liked both Iron Man movies. Just the right tone.

I actually didn't dislike the movie. It was by no means a great movie or the best Bond film (Bond films have never been watched for their superb story-telling and convoluted plots though), but it is not any where near as @#(!ty as some of the "great" movies that come out of Hollywood. Compared to the ilk that Hollywood secretes from it's superficially clogged pores, Skyfall wasn't all that bad.

I liked the sentimental feel of the movie and there was certainly a sense of Jeopardy. Though Bond continually surviving the impossible eventually got to the point where I said "oh come on! Really!?!".

The acting was well-done, the cast meshed for the most part, the villain had a nice classic villain feel to him (if a bit overdone). The plot was full of holes and the movie was over produced, but that is par for the course.

Lately I've been going to movies that aren't popular (John Carter, Cloud Atlas, That one about the dude building the time machine, some other I forget), and have found that they are typically better movies than the ones the sheep seem to flock to.

I broadly agree with Her Maj. I really enjoyed Casino Royal although I wasn't sure it was quite a Bond film, but it was a good film in it's own right. QoS was a disappointment of epic proportions to me, and only partially because of Phantom Menace syndrome.

Skyfall was, what? A sort of lame half way house between classic, campy Bond and the attempt at gritty Bond that premiered in Casino Royal. It doesn't help that it feels like there's at least one missing film between QoS and Skyfall in terms of the character arc. And Albert $#@!ing Fiunney as the ghillie? WTF? Don't you know any Jocks FFS?

Continuity. They've linked these prequels to the rest of the movies - with male M who has a secretary Ms Money Penny (who we now know isn't just a typist).

Except that Bond already owns the DB5 which he gets given by M and Q in the future, which happened in the 60s, and oh dear, I've gone cross-eyed.

Trying to make any sort of sense of continuity out of Bond is a recipe for disaster, confusion or both.
