Well let's look at the list of things that are fun:
going fast
being hard to kill
having one very reliable weapon

Now let's look at the things that are not fun:
having all your missiles shrugged off by chaff by random chance
a bunch of different weapons that are mediocre or specialized in boring stuff like shooting a fatass base
turning slowly and having very poor agilty
boosting and not getting anywhere fast
being completely ineffective when in close range
having the structural integrity of an egg
sitting in a pod because of all the above

ints are fun because they kill things well, you tend to spend spend less time doing nothing between engagements, and because it's impossible to die in one unless you $#@! up really badly

while other tech paths are strategically useful they're nowhere near as satisfying to play

ints are popular and fun and so exp because ints require very few skills for maximum result. They have the lowest skill/result ratio all of all ships, just above escape pods (and not always sometimes).

It's human nature to tend toward things that produce maximum effects for minimum effort. It's also where 'fun' is. Effort is seldom 'fun'.

It's also human nature to be proud and brag about being good at something that is easy to achieve and 'reduce' and slander things that are hard to achieve (or things they fail at being good at).

we can't change human nature I'm afraid.

The irony of course is that despite having the lowest skill cap of all ships in the game, only a handful of players in the game can hit this cap.

expecting them to be able to fly any other craft well is pretty ludicrous

Ints are the most manly because their strategy and implementation involves balls to the wall full on penetration of the enemy sectors with lots of guns and giant phallic devices constructors while getting the most money possible per miner load

we can't change human nature I'm afraid.

what if you made all the non-capital ships available in garrison?

tac with stealthy and effecient ints
sup with fast and maneuverable ints
exp with tough and powerful ints

researching enh or adv upgrades would still rely on having a properly upgraded tech base of some sort, otherwise you'll just have the light versions.

Instead of "god damn it, all we have are Si rocks" you'd have "yay, 30 sig ints with 600 ammo"

Well sup is designed to kill bases, tac to kill economy and they are both totally useless because you can't kill anything in a pod. Exp vs Exp is and always has been the way to play allegiance, it depends the most on taking map position, on teamwork and on player skill. It simply makes for better gameplay, better competition and it's always painful to see someone go sup or worse tac.

There are a few situations where it is useful to go supspan or tacspan or to get a 2nd tech to end the game after going for hvys.

To me really the whole concept of tac and sup and sy is just bad. It's really dull to play any of the optimal (gamewinning) strats for these techpaths. There are a few exceptions like full bombing with sup or ac bombing with supyard other than that it's just boring.

I mean in exp you are literally constantly rushing the enemy miners/cons breaking camps having massive furballs over constructors. Taking kbs off wannabe whores and surviving with your 40kb intact with almost zero hull. What is there in tac? Sit in their mining sector hiding and wait for the d to $#@! up? Hope they get bored of camping an aleph so you can sneak a sb in? Tac v Tac is literally a battle of who gets sick of the game first.

Sup v Sup is just as bad flying techless fighters around because your comm doesn't want to buy them tech. Boost 1 figs take about ten days to get anywhere.

Fighters are slow, fat, noisy and completely incapable of using the increased fire power that missiles give. Tac is so fragile that one tiny error will have you podding for 5 mins.

If you go sup or tac you are going up against exp and your entire team is going to hate you for making them fly inferior ships before you've even started the game really. Even if you win it's a pyhric victory as the exp team probably whored the $#@! out of you.

*sigh* I really just need to make my own core from scratch and see if my ideas really do turn out to be the complete disaster you'd have everyone convinced it would be
