So MW says he doesn't think it's lack of coding then proceeds to say its lack of coding :D

(just for the record I think your solutions are very good)

A lack of chemotherapy does not cause cancer, but chemotherapy can help cure cancer.

Thanks for the support.

Malicious Wraith wrote:QUOTE (Malicious Wraith @ Dec 30 2011, 11:49 PM) Heh, well, Allegiance has taught me that games that are going bad almost has a strategy that could potentially work. Most of the skill is in choosing the best option for the job.

Want to fix Allegiance? Stop all work on everything else, and do the four following things:

1. Change the find a game in the lobby system. Put a super big button on the middle of the screen that says: "Find Match." Players click that, are sorted into teams on a server, and a commander self-nominates then the players vote for who wins.
We have a modern ranking system. Its time we used it for effective matchmaking.

2. Replace the default key bindings with ones that make sense (as has been proposed. I am not sure if this has already been done.)

3. Make going to "freeallegiance.org" redirect to a noobie guide, at the bottom of which includes a: Forum link, an AFS link, and a Wiki link.

4. Resume vigorous advertising.
Good stuff. Just having one big lobby where one can create several games would help.

I'll add a few

5. Get rid of ridiculous options for general "main" games. 1 / 4 miners, and and standard settings. No Big Game, no fiddling with rock abundance. Some of those options are good for fine tuning in special occasions but result in silly games that aren't fun when used in the main.

6. Standardise miner capacity, so tweaking the amount of money on the map isn't something one can use to fine tune an advantage to a faction. This we can do with cores. It would be nice if money settings would adjust the amount of He / rock, rather than on the whole map, but that would be a coding issue. It's probably too late to ask for this in the next release.
HSharp wrote:QUOTE (HSharp @ Dec 31 2011, 12:00 AM) I actually think to save Allegiance for the long run we need to buy the rights from Microsoft, then FAO can generate money and spend money to advertise.
That too. If I would find myself with serious money, I'd try to do it. I don't know how much they'd want for the old girl now... maybe we could buy it off indeed?

The game itself is fine. Tweaking gameplay is unnecessary, and can be done after we aren't bleeding players.

Most of the game being dead is due to the fact that I'm working 70 hours a week. as soon as I have time to comm again, the rest of the community will suddenly show up in an effort to make sure I lose every game.
