APB free on-line MMO. The game play is different enough that it caught my attention. Not sure how long it will last, but it is fun for now.

DnD Online is fun if you like the feel of old-school DnD. I thought I did, but after playing it for a while it feels simplistic. Decent story and pretty well polished but it feels like something I would write as an adventure when I was 14.

Witcher. Freaking awesome. Haven't played 2. It grinds a bit in the middle, but I really enjoyed it.

Another hidden gem .. Masquerade. Vampire RPG. Better than I would have thought. Great atmosphere. Decent story.

Mass Effect is another fun series for a sci-fi shooter.

Last game ... Hellgate: London. The first two chapters are free to play. I have yet to actually play it, but a friend of mine love it for the blend of tech and magic.

Yeah it's a really really good game, some of the creators of Diablo worked on it. There are quite a few parallels. It's like a 3ed person Diablo II with new age weapons and @#(!.

you asked for a rpg you noob
i preferred the first witcher since it was almost twice as long and had more depth but the second was certainly worth it
