It's about 1/(299792458)th the distance light travels in a second in a vacuum (or a little over 3 feet)
I approve of teaching SI units in american schools though.

The majority of schools have classes that do, but it won't really matter until the whole country converts. Yikes, just another thing to spend money on .

That makes perfectly good sense. First of all, 10s are easier to manipulate in one's head. But more importantly, it's the harmonization of NATO standards that brought that along, I'm sure. With the protection of Western Europe at stake, it wouldn't do to call in an arty strike, for example, that is "10 miles due north" only to have the arty guy calculate 10 klicks and have a lot of friendly fire land on top of you.
QUOTE but my knowledge of exactly what a Meter is is a bit lacking[/quote]
A meter is a device used to measure the flow of a quantity. Examples include water meters, electrical meters, and parking meters.
The scientific unit for length is A MOTHER$#@!ING METRE. It's NOT an American word, you're whole goddam COUNTRY is stuck in the dark ages, so STOP $#@!ING "AMERICANISING" IT.
OH YEAH. I did that. I spelled an "IZE" word with an "ISE." Now whatcha gonna do? pffffbbbbbbbt!

Usually though, "skill" is used to covertly mean "match the game exactly to my level of competence." Anyone who is at all worse than me should fail utterly (and humorously!) and anyone better is clearly too caught up in the game and their opinions shouldn't count.

We fought hard and long for our ability to butcher the English language and we will damn well butcher it as we see fit!
You guys just patiently sat there until the crown got bored of you. LAME.

If we're going to correct their spelling, best give them the correct meanings too.
