Whatever, I won't add more drama. I've already posted in details last year about these 'proper actions' (share the 'keys', more openness, less ZLcracy, stop hosting on privatly owned hardware, let the devs choose their lead, etc)
You should clearly remember these so either you're playing dumb or <insert your reason here>.
I let a year pass to see if you had a plan or a vision for this game: all you came up with is this bounty stunt.
I tried your way so now I can, without regret, take MY proper actions because your organization is currently leading this game to
its end.
Feeding the troll goes against every recommendation, but I feel like I have to respond to make sure my words and my actions are not twisted.
I never edited any posts in this topic. Period.
I did split the technical discussion of the bug from this discussion of the bug bounty, and I clearly identified this. Nobody's words were changed. You can still trust what you see, and claiming otherwise is just lying. I have never been anything but honest with everything I have ever done around here.
Next, the keys have been shared - just not with you. If everyone had the keys then the keys would be useless.
What's wrong with privately-owned hardware? Paying a company to use their VM/server would yield identical results, but with less control on bandwidth constraints, CPU usage, and other resources. The people who run servers today can set their own rules rather than being a slave to some service they have no control over (and have to pay for those restrictions too).
As for the devs choosing their lead, it seems you are conveniently ignoring the numerous topics in the dev forum asking for people to either step up and be the dev lead, or nominate someone they feel would be good for the position. You do remember me asking you if you wanted to run dev the way you thought it should work, right? And how you declined?
Nobody stepped up (other than a dev that everyone was unanimous in saying they would not support)
Nobody nominated others.
Are the ZLs demons because they stepped into the empty ring, discussed options, and tried to get the ball rolling where the devs couldn't?
Finally, you say you tried my way and now you're going to take YOUR actions. Again this is completely misleading because my "way" is giving as much responsibility away to other people to do it THEIR way so that 1 man is not the bottleneck. The only "way" I have is trying to assist other people in doing it THEIR way. If you or anyone else feels things would be better doing it a different way then let's hear it and let's do it!!
And - if you are able to release an Allegiance 2 on 11-11-11 that has similar gameplay to this game that we all love, I will be the first one in line to sing your praises and thank you for it! Hell, if there's something I can do to help, please ask.
Now back on topic.
Allegiance has had a LOT of improvements contributed by some extremely talented people so far. R6 has amazing features that I know we are all DYING to play with. KGJV, you were instrumental in many of these - words can't thank you and the other devs enough.
But since these features have been committed, there has been little-to-no work done. There are a few outstanding issues that need to be addressed before R6 can be released - namely this multimonitor bug. pkk has posted here on the front page asking for developers to help finish it off, but got no replies. A few months passed. When the ZLs were chatting a month ago we wondered - if nobody is doing it, maybe it's a motivation issue. Maybe we can build some incentive by offering a bounty?
And you know what? It seems to have worked because work is now being done on it! (see here:
http://www.freeallegiance.org/forums/index...showtopic=62976 )
Go ahead and call me pathetic for organizing incentive... and go ahead and tell me we could have gotten this fixed for free elsewhere (you never did say where we could have gotten this multimonitor bug fixed for free...), but you must admit: it WORKED.
I am the first one to agree that a bounty should NOT BE NECESSARY and that devs should donate their time for free instead of having a carrot dangled in front of them. But looking at the history of R6, that simply wasn't happening.
And frankly, if the lobby, forum, gameservers, and dev servers were hosted in a cloud instead of on community member's servers...
and if you had the keys to everything...
and if there was less separation of powers (ZLcracy) and more dictatorship...
I can't see how the code would have been worked on any more than it is now. I bet these necessary fixes would still need motivation to be completed.
I just want the community to enjoy the fruits of your labour, and Imago's labour, and every other developer and tester who has put their time into improving the game that we all love. If I must be demonized for this, then I will gladly wear the title with pride.
