For me the point of Red Dwarf was The Odd Couple IN SPACE! Anything that detracts from that pretty much misses the point IMO.

That had it's charm, but you can't do just that forever. The main issue was that they simplified the characters personalities. They took their traits to the "more" extreme and shallowed them out.
