Rank is based 100% on if your team wins or loses. You gain rank when you win, you lose rank when you lose. How much you gain/lose is based on a fairly complicated formula which takes into account overall team rank and which team is "expected" to win.assassinsat wrote:QUOTE (assassinsat @ Jan 26 2011, 07:02 PM) So if the points have no relation with rank, then the rank is based solely on dogfighting and overall team win (also depending on team stacking). Is that it? That is what i got from the allegskill article. What exactly is skill rating?
Dogfighting has little to do with winning, normally. You'll learn this soon.
You win games by destroying/capping bases. You lose by losing your own bases. Base defense is important, but individual skill is less important than coordination.
That being said there are a very small handful of players that are SO GOOD at dogfighting that they can affect the outcome of a game, but that won't be you for a long long long long time.
In short, take AFS/CDT whatever the hell they are offering now.

So rank is based on the win or loss and nothing else? I'm sorry if I'm repeating things but I just want to be 100% sure. Because players like me who spend most of the time in game in scouts often get lots of ejects or deaths and few kills. So I usually get small post game points. It is good to know that it won't have any impact on my rank and that if I help the team to win by using a scout I can still get a good rank.
Also if individual actions don't determine the rank, what happens to players who are their in game from the start but don't do anything useful, nothing at all but flying around or something? If the teams are balanced and the team that player is on wins, will he get the same increase in rank?

Exactly - you've got it right - if your team wins you get a rank increase.assassinsat wrote:QUOTE (assassinsat @ Jan 27 2011, 09:53 AM) So rank is based on the win or loss and nothing else? There are scaling factors which determine how much your rank is affected (the relative strength of the teams, how long you flew for in the game), but that basic point holds true.

Yes - they get the same rank boost.
it will balance out though eventually, if you fly around and be useless in a game your team happens to win - you will get the same rank boost as the rest of your team.
However if you continue to fly around uselessly it will inevitably have an impact on your teams performance in the next game, and the one after that, and the one after that - and you will find your teams lose more than win.

Cumulative rank of the team you join vs the cumulative rank of the other team. If your team has 3 15's on it, and the other team has 10 2's, it's still stacking.assassinsat wrote:QUOTE (assassinsat @ Jan 27 2011, 07:37 AM) Think I finally got it. So the game is more team based more than any other game i've seen. Thanks. One last thing, is the stack rating determined by ranks of players in a team or number of players in the team.
