Installation is also an issue atm and we want to make sure we have high(er) retention than if we advertise right now
Um! Dor. The community has been "working" on this game for a number of years and the newbie count ebs and flows. Not because of the issues of game play. You guys have done a lot of tweaking with the game to insure smooth install and game play and I commend the community for this. The decisions on balance and what that means have always been in contention and that may lead to some eb. But what runs a lot of new recruits off is the shear magnitude of what has to be learned just to fly and shoot without spending most of your time floating. Each new player should be contacted by a vet and sent to a server to learn some of the basics. Yes! I know there are tutorials and a rookie server for this. Some of the people I have shown this game are rather overwhelmed at the amount of stuff that a commander needs you to know to do your job even in a rookie server. I know some thinks its the razing of people that try to put their two cents in when they have no idea what you guys are doing to keep this thing as playable as you have. I still remember the days of GUNS. lol Advertisting only gets them to look. Once they look they see how much effort they have to expend and they go fly ACE online. lol And that is the arguement the vets spout. If they don't put in the time I did they should get podded. Sry Ill get off my soapbox. I just think adopting a new player will put more people in the game no matter what the minor glitches are. I was recruited and trained. I think ALL players should be sponsored.

Ps If anyone can take on 4 computer fighters and scouts in the the combat sim. at the same time without reentering the base. Their ready for your Aces.

i live in sri lanka to be exact. But if the game needs to get popular in asia you should try some place like india. The thing in our countries is that the majority of the population doesn't have broadband. That sucks.

that would be great! One on one mentoring would sure get more players in. Would be a star wars master-padawan kinda thing. Also the training missions ain't enough and rookie servers are empty most of the time

Actually, this game can be played on dial-up just fine. However, the lack of a relatively close server still means the pings can be rather hard on players. It's not a bandwidth issue, but one of distance.

Lies, all lies!

I'm Singaporean.

And speaking of broadband, I guess we have quite a lot of that here.

singapore belongs to east asian region i believe. So you should have no issues with connectivity or hardware. Where i live, most people can't even afford a good pc so no use talking about broadband. Plus only some parts of the country get uninterrupted data connection. China, japan, malaysia, singapore etc. are better than our south asian countries. And btw you are the only other asian i met so far. Are there any others?

There are very few Asian-as-a-physical-location people unless you count the Indian subcontinent, and then not as many as there used to be.

There are plenty of Asians around however. Allegiance isn't a well marketed game that requires fluentish written english to be comprehended, let alone for one to be any good at it. Combine that with a lack of Asian servers or Unicode support and everything between Kiwiville and the Iron Curtain couldn't care less.

Personally, I blame the Koreans.

The irony is we are popular amongst some people which we do not benefit from. Two examples, the commercial spammers and (looks around and whispers) they_who_should_not_be_named.

In the bright side, I feel confident some clever coders and graphic artists will cook a nice one-click-install application which generates even more stable and beautiful alleg gameplay. Although some part of the nerdish me had respect for those who ran sov_logon and advanced regedit to play low res alleg on a 33K6 modem :)

I didn't say gameplay issues. I said techincal issues with the game engine working on intel chips and the faffing about you need to do to get the game installed. Nothing about gameplay at all.
I decided to relive the days gone by in my new blog.

Remember, what I say is IMO always. If I say that something sucks, it actually means "I think it sucks" OK?
