The Allegiance community currently hates their sysadmin because he is doing: [Too Much] [____________|] [Too Little]
Current reason: Removing the PayPal contribute page. Send Bitcoin instead: 1EccFi98tR5S9BYLuB61sFfxKqqgSKK8Yz. This scale updates regularly.

Ssssh
I have multiple decent Allegiance homepages already done and/or close to done. I still think they would be an improvement over what we have now.
Version 1
Version 2
These two homepages were actually better when I originally made them, having a nice slideshow play instead of the video. There was a link which would reload the page if the viewer wanted to watch the video and it would put the video where the slideshow was. Unfortunately I no longer have access to the slideshow and changed the page to just show the video, but could rebuild it.

In response to the original OP concerning one link here is one of a few older concepts which incorporated a page with instructions on how to start playing:

Actually, what I said was "I am new... show me shiny, pretty, simple first."
There were 3 main things that got me to try the game.
1. The videos right on the home page. Bam, right there, didn't have to click to go some where else. I like candy. Maybe there could be another video/picture page with exciting descriptions in some kind of list format. I spent quite a while searching Youtube for more videos that might explain what was going on or how the game was played. You know a better overview video would have been so so nice.
2. I liked the 4 highlight columns on the bottom. The selling points for me were that is was an older game (I figured it might run on my computer) and ran on XP and up. Maybe list minimum and ideal specs the game can run on?
3. It was FREE. I mean come on. F R E E!
Award badges are a nice touch, although I was disappointed they did not link to proof.
Suggestions:
1. Maybe put "step 1, step 2..." indicators on the big links. People are dumb and even though I assumed the order, I clicked out of sequence just to see what would happen.
2. Info on the Flight School link seems out of order. I never actually saw this page until after I had tried the game. That might be a good thing because all that seemed like work and not fun.
The new page suggestions are nice too, especially this one. Might be because I don't like red all that much.

TE was being sarcastic. Last time he (and others) rallied the troops for a new homepage it "worked out GREAT" and we got the current onegirlyboy wrote:QUOTE (girlyboy @ Aug 10 2010, 05:12 AM) What is wrong with the current one? It's great, newbies seem to like it, it's very attractive and neat... What's not to like?I don't get all this hate at all, least of all from TE.
The above translation is provided free of charge ... is the next one that's gonna cost ya

Videos like you suggest were part of my original plan when I started making them. Basically I want to have the short trailer followed by additional videos for those who want to know more about the game including narration explaining what is going on. Unfortunately I don't have enough stuff recorded yet to put such videos together. It is quite get difficult to get recordings, mostly due to the lack of a spectator mode. I will get to them eventually though.Moto wrote:QUOTE (Moto @ Aug 10 2010, 01:23 PM) I spent quite a while searching Youtube for more videos that might explain what was going on or how the game was played.
