I'm guessing that he needs a lappy for carting back and forth to school, so probably a desktop is off the list.

No desktops sorryUncleBuck wrote:QUOTE (UncleBuck @ Aug 1 2010, 12:25 AM) Do you have any experience building desktops? Or fixing them? Pretty basic skills are required, i'd be happy to help you design a PC to purchase.

Ok that fixes the shutting down...but what about the body falling apart? It has been coming up and has small lumps around the keyboard and the power button(the metal and plastic...I am going to try and save up like some have been saying to get something work buying...UncleBuck wrote:QUOTE (UncleBuck @ Aug 2 2010, 12:44 AM) If your laptop is shutting down in the middle of doing stuff, there is a 95% chance it is over heating. Does it feel extremely hot? Do you have a cooling pad? Do the fans sound quieter, or louder than usual? You could try to blow the fans clean, they get filled with dust surprisingly easily, and if you have a dog or a cat, they can get quiet clogged, along with the heatsinks them selves.
You can true using a vacuum, or your lungs to blow them clear, can get a compressed air dust can as well. Though the best way would simply to take your laptop apart, and clean them. Laptops can be a pain to take part, with so many screws of varying size and design, and the odd design of the laptop pieces it self. You can save alot of time if you have little pieces of tape, when you take a screw up, tape the screw to the laptop right next to its hole. Should allow you to easily keep track of them. Simply clean the heatsinks, and fans. I find that fixes the vast majority of laptop shutting down related problems.
Also google your brand/model if you do not have success. Often there is well known defects for certain models and sometimes some very easy ways to fix them.
