Shows what you know; I saw this long before you did, but decided to leave it alone. Figured there was no need for me to waste my time on it when there's so many voobs desperate for a low-hanging fruit like this so they can show off to the newbies about how smart and respectable they are. And damn was I ever right, this thread got more posts in three hours than the entire Cadet forum gets in three days.

No, just no.

Everyone HAS a right to command and is very welcome to do so as most of the time we lack commanders.

Of course this is far from saying that everyone CAN command. You know what the definition of comming an alleg game is? Starcraft where all the units hate you.

That sounds about right.

I agree with the scouts thing. But really, I was interested in commanding stuff, and in a real game, scouts would be pouring out of my base to go scout for me, defend my constructors, defend my miners...

I've read through the AFS. It doesn't make me a better dogfighter, only practice will do that. It doesn't make me better at commanding... actually knowing which color rocks go with which bases would help, but beyond that, there's still a whole lot about the tech tree that I don't have a grasp on, which would be helpful for even flying a scout.

As for starting a game without anyone, that's what I was trying to do, but I couldn't figure out how to do it. How is this done?

As for '03... I'll never forget Allegiance. But I get into it, then lose interest because I suck at it, can't command, etc. Then I come back thinking, this time I'll be better... and then it isn't. I've been in and out through the years.

I know a newbie game isn't a real game, and to be fair, I had the setting set to high/medium until my opponent showed up and said to set everything to the highest settings... which 'makes the game go faster'... no, it makes miners less important, bases more plentiful, rushing useless, etc. It's really boring. But it lets you get through the tech tree... but I don't need to just learn the tech-tree. I need the tech tree as it relates to an actual game, actual builds, and when we can actually get tech.

The game plan was silly but I really did learn a bit.

After you login to ASGS and the Allegiance.exe window appears, go to Free Games>Current Games Listings>Create Game (I suggest you use the CC_08 core)

Enter game details (core, game name, server to use) and then create the game.

To prevent people from joining, join a team and then click on 'Lock Lobby' from the menu on the right.

Complete!

EDIT: Eh? notjarvis beat me to it

No one has a right to command. Everyone gets to play, that's one of the rules around here, and it's a rather benevolent one. But commanders are basically allowed to command by majority rule (and thus can be mutinied by majority consent).

It is just selfish to want to command when you don't really know how, and thereby potentially ruin a game for 20 or 30 people. You owe it to the people who are playing the game with you to become a somewhat decent and kowledgeable player before you start to command. And when you do, you owe it to them to listen to them when they backseat you. At least until you get good enough to tell them to STFU. Very few make it that far.

Trying command on the newb server and/or with a couple of friends to learn the tech tree and more about the game is highly advisable, however. Nothing teaches you the game like commanding. But understand you must only do so with the consent of those who are playing. Anything else is hostaging.

Actually, I wouldn't say scouting with a carrier was a bad choice. In a real game it would have been a bit slow, but for a small game it's perfect. Worst case scenario, you can use constructors to scout too, but that might hinder your expansion. ;) Keep up the learning. Although you won't command anytime soon, what you learned in this will doubtlessly help you on main some time. :)

Uncheck the tick next to the other team's name... there you go. Never would have thought of that.

Forgot the 'profit' part too!

Thanks!

As for being a comm, yeah, not any time soon. Maybe someday when it's not prime-time... Well, off to play around by myself. Or maybe hop on the main game with everyone and get podded a bunch.
