Also, did you have an AV installed at any time? If so, what was it?

The only firewall would be windows firewall or my router (winFW off and PC in DMZ also took router out and went direct to PC)
this drive has never had any anti virus installed on it

over 10 years running Allegiance and never had an issue like this!!!
if I cant play in the aniv game in april I will be a very unhappy Saramin

The ports I believe are 2300 through 2400. Usually the lower ones are selected (ie 2301).

No idea, but this doesn't appear to by a GFX issue - the symptoms are "Classic" symptoms of something Blocking Alleg.

Saramin - did you try DarkWeebles suggestion further up this thread?

yes I did. no matter what port I pick they show open
I also used a program called CurrPorts that lists all ports in and out that any program on the PC is running
when I run alleg the following shows when I am in the game lobby looking at the games list

Process protocol local port remote port remote IP State
asgs TCP 53591 80 204.16.202.184 established
alleg TCP 53611 80 204.16.202.184 established
alleg UDP 59622 blank blank blank
alleg UDP 27551 blank blank blank
alleg UDP 2302 blank blank blank

when I choose a game and try to join it the list above stays the same and I get a failed to connect to server error
I run portchecker while alleg is still open and above ports show closed because alleg is holding them open...which is what I would think is correct.....shut down alleg and test ports again and they show open!

Can you get into the modem and change settings around? Sometimes modems act as routers as well so try to find out your router's "gateway" address (the internal IP of your modem) and open the ports in there. Also change uPNP (if off, turn on - if on, turn off).

Also try opening port 47624.
