An attempt at comfort:

Chance is indiscriminate,
The Future indeterminate;
And while some respond with fear,
Others will open their ears
To create humbled prophets.

These prophets learned from the past,
But know Chance cannot be grasped,
For she is woven with time.
To know the Future is Crime!
Who can know Uncertainty?

Introduce our learned men!
Endless gratitude they’ll send!
There is nothing new under
The sun, and no new blunder.
None can know Chance.

For she will be deceptive
To achieve her random ends.
She and unavoidable
Future plot against the best
Of men, to ruin the best of plans.

I go through random bouts of depression, and occasionally write. This was shortly after my grandmother died completely unexpectedly at 67. What tore me up the most was my grandfather and how horribly he dealt with it. What makes a person better is their support networks and ability to get them through these horrific events.

I'll pray for you.

The nice part about being a pessimist is that you are constantly being either proven right or pleasantly surprised.

That's... a lot of terrible things happening. But somehow, life will go on and you will make it through. I wish you the best of luck.

Damn fine piece of writing there.

This one's not by me, but Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Give All To Love

Give all to love;
Obey thy heart;
Friends, kindred, days,
Estate, good fame,
Plans, credit, and the muse;
Nothing refuse.

'Tis a brave master,
Let it have scope,
Follow it utterly,
Hope beyond hope;
High and more high,
It dives into noon,
With wing unspent,
Untold intent;
But 'tis a god,
Knows its own path,
And the outlets of the sky.
'Tis not for the mean,
It requireth courage stout,
Souls above doubt,
Valor unbending;
Such 'twill reward,
They shall return
More than they were,
And ever ascending.

Leave all for love;—
Yet, hear me, yet,
One word more thy heart behoved,
One pulse more of firm endeavor,
Keep thee to-day,
To-morrow, for ever,
Free as an Arab
Of thy beloved.
Cling with life to the maid;
But when the surprise,
Vague shadow of surmise,
Flits across her bosom young
Of a joy apart from thee,
Free be she, fancy-free,
Do not thou detain a hem,
Nor the palest rose she flung
From her summer diadem.

Though thou loved her as thyself,
As a self of purer clay,
Tho' her parting dims the day,
Stealing grace from all alive,
Heartily know,
When half-gods go,
The gods arrive.

edit: Whoops, didn't read that Uber actually wrote that himself. Thought it was a C&P. I'll pull back my joke poem for now.
