Integrated Voice Chat: To Hard? Not worth it?

If it does in fact get looked at, an option would be to have it DISABLED by default. This would keep it from crashing/lagging the dialup players, and have a warning pop up with some legalese when it is enabled releasing FAO or MS or any other parties who ever heard of Allegiance from any liability for anything that is said or heard over the chat system.

I actually have v1.0 finished. Unfortunately, something has happened to my windoze which incurs a two second delay between my pressing the push-to-talk key and it actually recognising speech. $#@!s everything right up on the development front. If you're interested, I'll make a download....

Actually VO technology is built into DirectPlay..

I don't know which version of dplay Allegiance currently uses, just saying:)

oooh...what's different in v1.0? I worked with you a bit on the version I have to clean up some of the default chat pack phrases....did you make any other changes since?

Quite a bit. Sod it. Find me tomorrow and I'll send you the latest version. (Too tired etc to do anything sensible right now)

I think we're on dplay8, someone will correct me if I'm wrong I would think. (I think dplay 8 was the latest)

Well, I've always wondered how to make a voice chat program. Guess this will give me a reason to look into it.

This is true, but I've heard that dplay is one of the reasons we have such problems with some antivirus softwarez.

If anything we should decrease our dependence on dplay rather than increase it....

Decreasing dependence on deprecated directx components would certainly be a good thing :) .
