As long as you leave an option to use "classic" mappings for us old folks who can't deal with change.

The thing is, I really don't link the WASP layout.. I find it... odd to say the least... This isn't quake in space!

The people who are used to WASD in FPS will actually try those controls, and they will immedeately discover sidethrusters.

As it is currently 90% won't discover them until somebody tells about them. This is the key difference. I don't care where they bind the stuff later, but the defaults should be something that help them discover key aspects of Allegiance.

I agree that W and S being forward / back thust is a horrible idea.

It works brilliantly for me, backthrusting is very important, and you need to be able to cut forward trust and bring it back very quickly or only have it on for a short period frequently.
I don't understand how people can fly using the throttle, especially if they need to move their hand from it's default position to change it, + you don't get very precise control using keyboard for throttle (it's much easier to get the speed you want by doing low frequency PWM with the forward thrust key).

People coming form FPS expect W to take them forwards, S to take them backwards, A to take them left, and D to take them right, telling them "because you're in space, you can go up and down too, you can use R to go up, and F to go down, and you can roll with Q and E" makes the additional stuff just an extention to what they're used to and expect, rather than making them relearn somethnig which is prettyu much standard in the gaming world (in addition to learning everything else about the game)

I have forward and back mapped to R and F. That lets me use wasd to thrust up, left, down, and right, with convenient access to my roll keys q and e and even easier access to boost.

Would someone who can please look at the WIKI keymap. FOUR keys are said to be mapped to sidethrust :o .
If that isn't some kind of weird overlook, please explain for the benefit of my glacial comprehension.

This is correct. WASD are all mapped to sidethrusters -- W up, S down, A left, and D right. :P

I need to change my keymap around... I don't even remember what most of the keys do anymore, I am so used to it. It's some nightmarish mesh of default and the Wiki setup. But it'd be nice to change it to something sensible.

What would be really nice is a program that can edit inputmap1.mdl in a more user-friendly way. Like, with less scrolling and easier-to-find everything. Too bad I am not a programmer.
