We need a "Cadet enquiries" subforum.

I applied for CDT on 04/27, but got nothing more then an auto reply. People in-game say that I applied half way through a session, but it says above that the latest class is just ending.

In the same situation here, I applied on the 26th. I have been reading, doing the training missions offline and playing in a couple small low key games. I'm reluctant to jump in to the main games because I feel that I don't even know what I don't know... I also never see the "Newbie" server actually running a game. I would appreciate just a brief update that there is nothing else I should be doing to be in the next session.

Thx,
Bod

Don't wait for cadet to start before jumping on the main. You'll have a (0) ofter your name so nobody will should pick on you, and the cadet instructors will have you flying in those games anyway.

Yeah, it's especially fun to hear NEED BBRS! NEED BBRS! EVERYONE GET IN A BBR! and then get turned down for a bomber. Granted we're newbies and we'd just fly it into a rock anyway, but it's kinda weird to play the game and just watch or go around picking up pods.

There are tons of things you can do. You could nan the bbr, you could turret gun the bbr (but NEVER a fighter/bomber), you could probe, you could deprobe, you could nan the miners, you could help camp alephs by dropping prox mines in front of it...

The answers to how to do any of these things are available if you ask, and you don't have to wait for cadet ;) I think one of the biggest myths is that we don't want to teach you how to fly outside of cadet... the truth is Cadet is just the fastest way to teach a lot of people at once, and it's useful as a pre-req for Cadet 2.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Cadet1 isn't that useful... the exact information is available elsewhere. Cadet1's purpose is to qualify for Cadet2, which is where you'll start being a good pilot.

Or in my case, a pilot that occasionally accidentally does something useful ;)

I joined.
I probed.
I mined.
I nan'd.
I rescued.
I died... (repeatedly)
Rinse, repeat as necessary...

I think I'm starting to get the hang of this!

add "proxed" in there and you may find the dying comes less often ;)

Yeah, the commander wound up having me probe/deprobe and rescue pods, my point was that it's like a chess game where you're less than a pawn until you take Cadet 2. (Then you're "useful".)
